I think you are missing the point.....A&M might not be allowed to leave.
So it's OK for Texas to sign deals with ESPN without Big -12 approval and seek admission to the Pac-12.
But when anyone else tries it, it may be prevented by court action?
Texas is on it's way to getting the snot knock out of them in court. The legislation may also be
in legal hot water if it's giving preference to Texas.

Yeah, ok.

But State Senator Judith Zaffirini, the chairwoman of the Senate Higher Education Committee, said in a telephone interview Sunday that the Senate had no plans to get involved in conference expansion. A hearing before the Texas legislature’s House Committee on Higher Education about Texas A&M’s potential move to the SEC was canceled. Zaffirini said she saw no potential political roadblocks for a Texas move to the Pac-12.
“I don’t see that happening at all at this point,” she said. “I have absolutely no intent of calling a hearing at this time.”

How ironic would it be if Texas bolts the Big 12 before Texas A&M?

FUTEXAS is more worried about aTm than aTm is worried about FUTEXAS. That is my impression, by far, after following this the last year.

The meeting was postponed after the SEC said they were standing pat. It was never rescheduled because the politicians were told that Baylor was safe because the Big 12 would survive.
The part you left out, or maybe didn't know, is that Aggies around the state contacted him in an organized effort. Dumbass Dan Branch wants to run for Texas Attorney General, and that's going to be extremely difficult if a couple hundred thousand people are pissed off at him for meddling with football schedules.

A&M going to the SEC isn't surprising anyone at this point. Beebe said the Big XII is fine without A&M. Whether or not the Big XII survives at this point has zero to do with A&M. The original post and the thought lines behind it are embarrassing.
Dr. Drunkenstein - I don't think anyone is saying that t.u. is scrambling to find a conference home. PR wise they are scrambling to prevent themselves from looking terrible, and it's only making them look worse. For a PR-centric school, they're botching this one up pretty impressively.

You nailed it.

but the real hangup is the fate of the smaller schools.
funny how comparatively few tears were shed for rice, smu, tcu, and houston when they got left out from the SWC

Yeah, from what I've read, those schools had no idea what was coming and zero time to prepare when the SWC kicked the bed pan. DeLoss Dodds was his usual sneaky self, and it was a different era, media-wise.
Baylor may be a small private school that should be playing in the Sunbelt, but roughly 87% of their alumni and fans are active in state politics. They're always throwing monkey wrenches into the gears.

The only people reporting this potential legislative interference are Fat Ketch and his little buddy Chip, at orangebloods. Every other media mentions are using OB as the source.

+1
If anyone can find me a source on this that's not the UT mouthpiece of Orangebloods I'll consider it.

Horns are pussies, and this legislative stunt won't work.

Texas is now jealous of A&M. They know the SEC is the move. They wish they were there. They wish they had not messed up this situation so unbelievably bad - when they started with all the marbles. The rest of the nation is finally clued in after the initial ESPNHorn co. media blitz. Horns are now obsessed with "Aggy". Its funny. A&M could give a crap. SEC. The hot ex girlfriend finally freaking out because her go to has left for a hooter chick and doesnt give a rats arse. Meanwhile the ex blogs, cries, whines, sues, tattles - you name it. Texas is eating the shite sandwich they prepared with care. Pathetic. Have some pride and just go do something. quit crying.

I have lots of horn grads in my family. DeLoss can't survive this one if horns fail to move on to Pac12. The alumni will lynch him.

Whisky, thanks for the spot-on comments.
I, for one, hope the whorns stay in the Big 12-2-1 or do indy. That would make my day. If they go Pac-12, that will be funny too. They think they are so progressive, so West Coast-like, when in fact the West Coast thinks they are wannabes.
Can't wait for SEC action!

I can see UT in the PAC-12, but to me OU just really doesn't belong there. I suspect the fanbase wants to be in the SEC. Can anyone in Okieland give us the mood of the sooner faithful?
Posted on 9/5/11 at 4:02 pm to DocBugbear
Most fans want pac, some do want sec. Administration seems to be all about the pac.
I would be shocked if OU went to the sec

I think the funniest part in everything is if the LHN is the straw that breaks the Big 12 and then the PAC 12 turns it into a regional channel and makes them share it with Texas Tech.

Texas isn't moving. I don't know why they're even pretending.
