Umm.... Baylor is leaking money like a sieve into their healthcare network and medical schools and they're looking to sell them to anyone because they're over half a billion dollars in debt:

FYI the med school no longer has an affiliation with the university.

You're right. That's what I get for regurgitating stuff I read on another forum. Baylor is in debt, just not from that. They keep issuing 300-400M in bonds very few years to pay off their maturing bonds, which is why they aren't putting money into athletics. They are perpetually in half a billion dollars of debt, regardless of what their endowment is.

Baylor medical split from the university about two decades ago. It is entirely separate from the university, and the med school is wholly independent. And in Houston.

And they are putting money into athletics, just not football. They pay Mulkey a ridiculous sum. They just built new baseball and softball facilities which are gorgeous. And they plowed a ton of money into their tennis program and facilities.

I think they would be better off adding Houston, not that they're the first choice. With A&M & Houston they would had a big presence in Texas.

I keep reading comments from folks about TCU, Houston, SMU, etc. These programs do not help bring the Texas Markets. A&M and Texas bring the Texas Markets.

It's like saying Tulane would bring the New Orleans market. It is ridiculous. None of those programs offer much.

Thanks for the correction. That was already pointed out. And I admitted I was wrong about.

If Baylor spends so much, how is a school that gets one-eighth of the television contract funds they do, far less in bowl revenue, and shares their BCS money with every school that isn't in a BCS conference (while Baylor gets a much larger portion from the Big 12 BCS share, which they've never contributed to) outspending them by almost 8 figures a year?

Im sure Baylor's facilities don't suck. TCU has the a class-of-the-nation tennis center (#1 by Tennis magazine) and a brand new gorgeous baseball park, soccer complex, and track and field center. Oh, and they're building a $150M new football stadium that is on their campus (Baylor's is off campus and a dump). TCU paid for all of this with capital fundraising, not with bond issuing and adding to their half-billion in debt like Baylor does, so TCU did all of this without going into debt, while Baylor is racking up huge debts, has more coming in from their conference, and they're still losing.

You look like a fricking moron when you act like Baylor and TCU's programs are equivalent.

I think UH would add to the market, particularly in filling the stadium. Houston has so many SEC grads living there that some non-UH folks might buy season tickets.
