Agreed. He covers the Astros like no one else in the business. Has been my favorite sportswriter for a long time now.

I can't wait for the LSU-A&M rivalry to be renewed. College Station is only 90 miles up the road from me. The atmosphere at Kyle Field is up to par with any in the SEC. I just hope we schedule A&M in early September like we did in the 80s and 90s.

I have to ponder, "Is it really going to happen this time?" We were teased last summer and again just two weeks ago. How can we be sure it's really going to happen this time? I hope the third time's a charm, but I'm not going to believe A&M is in the SEC until I'm wearing purple at Kyle Field, talking smack to the Aggie fans to the left and right of me.

This is true, Dr. Texas outplayed us 35-20 in the Cotton Bowl. However, that was about 10 years ago and the SEC, along with the teams that play in the SEC, are on a different level now. For example, back in 2002, the National Champions included:

2002 - Ohio State
2001 - Miami
2000 - Oklahoma
1999 - Florida State
1998 - Tennessee

Now, the National Champions are:

2010 - Auburn
2009 - Alabama
2008 - Florida
2007 - LSU
2006 - Florida

Its a different football world today.

The past history of the teams meetings doesn't have anything to do with the fact that I want to see the teams meet again and what I hope the outcome will be. If your history is more important to you than the present and future yall would be a perfect fit for the Big10 when your conference folds.;)

The Longhorns never thought the Aggies would actually leave for the Southeastern Conference.
Actually, they believed the SEC would take Texas A&M only if it brought Texas along. That has been their mantra for the last year.
Now they’re watching the Aggies about to leave for a great adventure and thinking, “That sure looks like fun.”
It ticks them off to know the Aggies outsmarted them, and it kills them to think the Aggies are moving into a better neighborhood.
The Aggies are trading Waco, Lubbock and Stillwater for Athens, Oxford and Tuscaloosa, and who wouldn’t make that swap?

The SEC is forever.

Texas is perfectly poised to be independent and stop sharing conference money with anyone. They will end up independent and maybe even better off.

Name an independent that is better off? Do not say Notre Dame, they got the TV contract but they suck and have for a long time.

If Texas sinks like Notre Dame did, then you are right, they will be worse off.

Texas will fail as an independent in the longterm IMO. Notre Dame and BYU have national followings because of religious affiliation.

People don't care about Texas outside of Texas if they aren't winning

Sounds accurate, A & M is smart to get out now. Welcome to the premier conference in football. Y'all will do fine.

First, let me say I don't want A&M in the SEC. Not a good fit with our conference. They're running away from the fight because they're mad at Texas. That's not the right reason to leave an entire conference

Secondly, I have to laugh when I think of Texas running the show in the Big 12. I guess the number of people in the state and tv ratings in Texas are all that matter to the University of Texas and the big 12. When it comes to the actual playing of football and true football pedigrees, it's Nebraska and Oklahoma that ARE what real college football is to real college football fans. Texas doesn't hold a candle to the history and success of these other two. So when football fans laugh at the debacle that the Big 12 has become, it's because it's been made about Texas and their money rather than about the actual football. Granted Texas has had success these last 7or 8 years but not more than Oklahoma and now that Nebraska has left it's further diminished the entire conference's prestige. Texas' ego is the real undoing of the Big 12 because outside of Texas, no one really cares about Texas.

You are right. We should stay in a monopolized conference in which the commissioner plays favorites. Gotcha

Do you not want us in the SEC because you're a traditionalist and like the SEC the way it is, or you don't like the way we're leaving the conference?

I ask because these seem to be contradicting statements-

I completely understand the argument from SEC fans that love the SEC how it is and don't want us, but the reason we're leaving the conference is because of the Texas ego, as you kind of said.

It's not just playing favorites. The commissioner tried to pull a switcharoo on A&M's leadership twice. The dude can't be trusted.

And how are we running away if we're telling them we still want to play them every year? I think it's called, "Hey jackfaces, y'all stirred this up to the point we looked around and saw a better opportunity so we're gonna go ahead and take it. But guess what? We still want a chance to beat your asses every year."

It's not about "being mad at Texas". The conference has made terrible decisions as a whole that have led to a wedge being driven between conference members that has already resulted in two teams leaving for greener pastures. The conference is a house of cards waiting to fall down. A&M is getting out before they're left in the cold and are putting themselves in the premiere football conference to boot. If you think this is just about "being mad at Texas" then you've clearly missed the boat.
