Don't forget TV is right in the middle of all this. I just don't think A&M will allow itself to get burned again. Their fan base would use the Admin building as a bonfire if they don't follow thru to the SEC.

No question about it. Texas A&M fans will follow through on joining the SEC. No gaylor or gayhorn will stop this train.

Worst case we indemnify the SEC through out 12th Man Foundation. Even that is pennies for this 100-year decision.

I really can't see the B1G bending over backwards to let Texas or ND in. I could be wrong, but there will be a lot of mad fans if that happens.

Would they be bending over backwards to do that? If the SEC expands to 14 teams, the Big 10 should want to follow suit. I don't think the would Texas with the same deal that Texas is currently getting with the Big 12, but I don't know why anyone would be upset about it.

Texas would be become one of the only Big 10 schools with a winning record against the SEC.

Notably, there is a general discontent with the reporting of the situation by ESPN with specific regard to Texas. ESPN has, for self-serving purposes, drastically exaggerated the lean of Texas to the Pac12 conference in nearly all commentary. ESPN has essentially waged a propaganda campaign to drive support among the Texas stakeholders to the Pac12 conference. ESPN has gone so far as to attempt to accelerate the disintegration of the Big XII to pressure Texas into making an immediate conference change decision. Texas has steadfastly resisted change, and will do so until the appropriate time occurs for Texas to stand in a strong position to renegotiate television contracts, including with ESPN.

Big 10 would probably kill for that to happen. But it's not going to happen. Nebraska would be livid if Texas were to join.

Texas would just put all of its home games on the LHN.

I cant imagine the majority of the B1G schools would agree to that

How do you tell Michigan, that when they play in Austin every couple years, they will not be able to watch the game unless they subscribe/have access to a obscure sports channel - one that they will only need to watch once every 24 months.

that seems like a stretch and tough sell

Just like it too some time for the Big10Network and the NFL network to get ramped up, the same thing is happening with LHN. Soon, it will get picked up by the Dish Network, DirectTV and the big cable companies......especially if Texas starts showing 6 football games a year and all of its home basketball games.

Very soon, all of you, when you pay your cable bill, will be contributing to the University of Texas athletics department. Thanks!

Why does the B1G have to follow suit? The B1G is perfectly content staying at 12. They would only allow ND and then look for another team to get to 14 only if ND would even want to join.

Delaney has always said that the B1G will expand again if there is a mutual agreement on the current B1G terms. Even when adding Nebraska, the B1G made it clear that Nebraska had to meet the B1G's terms in order to gain admittance.

I know that Texas and ND bring more to the table, but the B1G also brings more to the table than most other conferences. I would hope that Texas never steps foot inside the B1G, but if they do, I would hope it is on the B1G terms and not Texas'.

Also, I'm sure a lot of B1G teams have winning records against the SEC.

It's not gonna work.

To get both of those schools, the Big Ten would have to get ESPN to shorten the Longhorn Network contract to last through 2015...the same year that Notre Dame's NBC contract ends. The Big Ten then admits the 2 schools and allows them to keep that TV revenue through the end of their respective contracts, but then that's it.

Maybe the Big Ten would work out a deal with NBC to broadcast its feature game each week...kind of like the SEC does with CBS.

Even still, ND and TX are losing TONS of money. There's just no way they go for that.

I just went to CFBWarehouse and counted five B1G teams with winning records against the SEC.

the Big10Network and the NFL network

I dont see how you can effectively compare the two

the Big10Net covers ALL the member schools. If I'm an Illnois fan, I can reasonably expect to see coverage of my school __ hours per week. Likewise if I follow Northwestern or Penn St. There's vested interest in that channel (for the most part) year-round.

As far as the NFL - well, it's the NFL, and the games they broadcast dont key in on one team every damn time. Professional football is the number one sport in this country because even when it's bad, it's still pretty good.....once again, year-round appeal.

As a Nittany Lion Fan or a Buckeye, there is nothing appealing about the LHN except the 5 times a decade my team plays UT. It's going to be a very tough sell to the other B1G schools and there will be a ton of resistance.

notre dame would make more money if they joined the B1G, thats been well documented.

being independent for notre dame has less to do with financial reasons and more to do with national perception.

I'll never understand people like you who vicariously live through the athletics department of the school you attended. You are pretty pathetic if that's what makes you.

Texas is largely linked to the death of two conferences and our newest member joined largely just to escape them. There are plenty of us that worry Texas is a conference cancer.

Things that PBC was spot on:

1) Was the first person ever to mention Nebraska as a key target. While everyone else was talking about the likes of Pitt, Mizzou, and Syracuse.

2) He did mention UT and the Big Ten were talking, and you people thought he was on drugs. Well, the Gordon Gee and Bill Powers emails are now public. Spot on.

3) He noted that UT and ND were in cahoots way before anyone caught wind. A year later, there are stories about how Swarbrick and Dodds are in constant contact and looking to get closer.

4) While Chip Brown was claiming the Pac-16 with UT going was a done deal, PBC calmly noted it would never happen. It was all a ploy to make UT look like they were taking care of the rest of the conference.

That's just the top of my head.

There is no puppetmaster but Jim Delaney, and PBC is his prophet.

Again, this is an independent report I've received from Big Ten offices. The chatter about Texas & Notre Dame joining is much more than talk

LullonSports Joe Lull
Told Texas & Notre Dame have already made initial presentations to Big Ten officials. Interest mutual. Nothing set, but momentum building.

LullonSports Joe Lull
To make clear what I'm reporting: both Texas & Notre Dame have had discussions w/ the Big Ten regarding joining the conference by 2014...

@ChloeDenmark yes, I'm in Ohio. My source in inside the Big Ten office. It's 2011, don't need to live next door to have a reputable source.
