Last year when the PAC 12/SEC were flirting with poaching schools like Texas, OU, and Texas Tech from the big 12 the supposed reasons those schools didn't leave was travel distance and academic standards. So how exactly does West Virginia make sense in either as they are just as far if not farther away than most SEC schools are from the schools listed above and aren't exactly known for their academics.

The whole point is the big 12 schools were full of shite.

Stop trying to make sense of it. We'll be here all day arguing for reason against desperation.

The reason that those schools didn't go to the Pac-12 was
1) A&M said they wont go
2)Texas wouldn't give up the LHN
3) Pac-12 wouldnt take OU & OK State without Texas

Exactly. They have been turned down twice by the Pac 10 now due to the LHN.. But it's all good they will go back and be the saviors of the Big 12 and all the little minions will fall in line.

Looking back I can laugh at the Big 12 now.

Although I do feel sorry for a few of the old Big 8 schools that are really just stuck there whether they like it or not. The Big 8 was a pretty close knit group back before the Big 12. I do wish the best for them moving forward and hope they don't end up screwed over in the end.

The real tell w/ the Big XII was the "signing-over" or "granting" of media rights to the conference.

If everyone is on board forever, then why only six years of grants? Why not ten years, 12 years (symbolic), etc.?

It's because Texas wants a few years to figure out of the Longhorn Network is really going to be a success. If it is, all is well. If it is not, then realignment fiascos will break out again in 2015-2016.

Columbia, SC is the furthest SEC destination that A&M will travel to.

Morgantown is further away from Austin than Columbia is from College Station.

Deloss and Ken Starr are going to be up all night crying about how hard that will be on their precious student athletes.

Exactly!! That's the same argument I've used here in Kansas City, but I'm always told the Big 12 is stable and that grant of rights proves it. They always say Missouri not signing it is the only thing making it unstable.

Ah well, as I said the other night. Texas,OU,OSU and TT were out the door just a month ago if the Pac 12 would have accepted LHN. How can anyone think the Big 12 stable after that.

Mizzou asked for a longer commitment from Texas and they refused. Another chance Texas had to help keep the conference together but acted in self interest :smh:

Well that is it in a way. Missouri asked for 2 things because they know Texas would balk. They asked for it to go back to 12 teams and for a 10 to 13 year grant of TV rights. When they asked for that they knew Texas would balk. When Texas balked they walked out and the next day gave Mr. Deaton permission to look for a new conference home. My bet is the only call was to Mr. Slive and they started discussing ways to get out without the lawsuits they knew the Big 12 would threaten.
