Really interesting map. Being originally from Atlanta I know that any drink with fizz in it upon opening is a Coke. The map tells us that there are some problems with several states counted by most as southern. Virginia and North Carolina are totally mixed up and South Carolina is infected to some extent. Here in Tulsa many do say pop which seems always weird to me.

Obviously, but that has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. I'm saying that yes people do call all carbonated beverages "coke", myself included. However, the old wives tale about going certain places and ordering a "coke" then the waitress asks "what kind?" is not true. People are smart enough to realize they have to be specific when ordering what they want, but in everyday conversations may call everything Coke.

Mostly pop, some soda, no coke.

Just say Dr. Pepper and be done with it.

Waiter: What do you want to drink?
Me: I'll have a coke.
Waiter: What kind?
Me: Dr. Pepper.
