"We anticipate being a 13-team league in 2012-13," Slive said. "First, there are no institution currently under consideration by the SEC presidents and chancellors. And secondly, we have not received any application of any institution other than Texas A&M."

Read between the lines. Just legalese is all that is.
Texas A&M was never "under consideration" until they asked of their own accord after leaving the Big 12.

I do think that the right team is going to have to be the one to reach out to the SEC, not the other way around.
I never thought it was going to be possible to get a 14th team by next year.
I give it one maybe two seasons and then the SEC will be at 14.

"aTm Press Conference" Thanks Dtrain. Really enjoyed that and what a unique but rich tradition they have. Loftin has great charisma and they reminded me of a group of southern gentlemen, wow in this day in time.

I never could warm up to the B1G being really eleven teams when they added PSU, so when Nebraska went over and upped them to 12, it felt good. I like even numbers in conferences; for the SEC, 12 was good, 14 is good, but 13 seems unbalanced. That's just me, though. I hope this is going to be corrected sooner rather than later, almost regardless of who that #14 turns out to be.

I posted this on the "Missouri" thread but that is apparently set so that it won't go back to the top. Mizzou fans seem to think that they are going to get an invite. Their Board of Curators is putting together a meeting for Tuesday.

With 13 you can play a round robin schedule and tell the rest of college football to frick off. Additionally, that COULD become a model for the "Super Conferences", as they won't have to bring on as many teams or split the revenue as much.
Each of them could play 12 game round robin schedules, and then have the top teams face off against each other in a playoff, which would offer plenty of intrigue because you won't have the crossover games until the playoff...
