1. Kansas - may get left without a BCS conference. Shitty football will do that to you. what else can i say?

2. Colorado - made the first jump to the pac10. ADept is going bankrupt and they supposedly have to pay $9M to leave the big12 unless it dissolves. UT, TAMU, and OU have not made a decision. Even if the big12 does dissolve and they're off the hook for the $9M, if the pac10 doesn't get UT/TAMU/OU they're not going to generate big money. They may generate less, actually, which will kill the program.

3. OU - if UT/TAMU go to teh big10 (whcih makes the most sense), then OU is left out. would the pac10 want OU? likely not by themselves. OK isn't a big market and isn't worth the hassle/costs. OU would have to beg the SEC to take them (which we likely would)

4. Baylor - see: kansas, but without the basketball tradition. Who cares about them anyway?

Also add:

Missouri-been pushing Big 10 for years
KSU- In wait and see mode
Oklahoma State- Like KSU
Iowa State- Like KSU
Utah- Long rumored to be 12th Pac 10 member. CU rumors came true have not heard about them lately. Does adding BSU solidify MWC, at least for the time being?

Like everything, Texas holds all the cards. If the Big 12 likes to stay intact do they start raiding the MWC and the predicted trickle down begins or does the B12 exodus continue and the MWC effectively takes the place of the Big 12 and the MWC tries to add those listed above?

OU is not out on a limb

If the Big 12 were to survive they would be essential. They are coveted by both the SEC and PAC and will land somewhere

If the TAMU to SEC scenario plays out, I'd reckon Kansas would take their place in the Pac 16.

yup. The Pac 10 would probably add just one more team like a Utah, if they can't get UT/TAMU/OU. I think their shitty TV deal is worth about $50 million compared to SEC's $209 million and it could always go down like you say.

The Pac-10 deals are going up no matter what. The Pac-10 hasn't negotiated a new TV deal in years and their current one is outdated. It's expected that the Pac-10 will have a major jump in revenue no matter what happens with expansion

If A&M to the SEC then UTAH to the PAC-10 over Kansas because the media market in Salt Lake City is bigger. Plus the proximity & airline HUB make it very attractive.

Kansas to the MWC. Strategically it could bolster Kansas football program over the long term and put them in a much better basketball conference especially if San Diego & Gonzaga are added as the media has indicated.

Colorado is not out on a limb. If the other Big 12 schools decline, Pac 10 will add Utah. That combo will add Salt Lake City and Denver to their TV markets. That would mean a stronger Pac 10. They both make more sense geographically, anyway.

The only thing that is SURE right now. It's clear the major schools are talking to multiple conferences and deals are being discussed. Right now it's hard to tell what is lip service and what is serious.

It's either the MWC or Conference-USA.

As for the Salt Lake City market, it's just ahead of KC.

Rank DMA TV Households % US
31 Salt Lake City, UT 944,060 0.822
32 Kansas City, MO 941,360 0.820

ETA: Wow, that data looks all fricked up when it's in the thread.

Surely you are not that stupid.

I guess now you want to say that the LA market isn't big, because it can't support an NFL team. Markets are markets.

The Big 10 is likely to add Rutgers to get the NY/NJ market, even though Rutgers is an afterthought in that market. It still makes the Big 10 available on millions more TV sets. Whether anyone watches it or not is the responsibility of the conference and schools to put a good product on the field. The availability is what they are after.

it's a big market that is fickle and doesn't support the NFL and isn't really a CFB town

having a huge market means nothing if they don't give a frick about CFB

this only matters to the big10, due to their cable channel

eh

CFB just isn't that popular in many areas of this country, esp urban areas

you can't force people to like shite

If Mizzou doesn't get in the Big 10 they're in trouble. Kansas will be like a Memphis in Bball in the Moutain West. TAMU will be fine. Pac whatever or SEC. Same with OU. OSU gotta hang on to Sooner coattails and go with them. Ditto with Texas Tech with the Longhorns.

I guess you need to call some of these conference comissioners and let them know that this TV market stuff they are fretting over is a bunch of nonsense. I'm sure they will be relieved.

I'm sure Jim Delany will be happy to find out that he doesn't need to add Rutgers, despite what all of his market research is telling him. Those millions of new TV sets are an illusion.
