Same university source who told me Dana was getting hired--& was spot-on re: everything--says WVU sent paperwork to SEC today. We'll see.

That credible, so not very credible. Up to Mizzou unless VT, FSU, OU jumps.

little germans are we.

I believe they prolly did submit paperwork but if you believe that the SEC will jump on the offer you are crazy. WVU has no wheres else to go. ACC and B1G will not take them do to academics. plain and simple. we can have them anytime we want and they will always be there.

bottomline.....WVU is a fall back option.

Would we submit the paperwork if we didn't know for sure of the SEC's answer? I'm just saying...Oliver Luck is far too smart of a businessman to be left with egg on his face.

many on twitter are saying otherwise.

and besides you dont do shite for the future of the conference which is the sec network. sorry but adding a state that would add less then 2 million premium subscribers doesnt do shite for exsisting members. Even if the sec network is out do you really believe that the addition of WVU would add 45 million minimum per year to existing contracts? cause thats what it would take to make you even a remote possibility.

anything less then a 2mil per year gain for existing members is not even worth it.

I know it's been beaten to death on this board already, but WVU's strength doesn't lie with the state of WV...but rather the huge alumni network in the DC, Charlotte, and Pittsburgh markets. You bet your arse that if the SEC Network happens, those markets would absolutely be demanded all along the east coast.

Right, and I think WVU has somewhat of a national brand as well. Clearly, with the success of RichRod and Pat White, but I'm in my 30s and have been very aware of the Mountaineers since Major Harris had you guys playing Notre Dame for the NC in '88. By the way, that dude was a badass.

That said, I'm not sure how I feel about this. I just found out about it. Gonna have to marinate on it for a while. But those who have suggested they don't have an SEC caliber program are fricking ridiculous. Ole Miss is in the SEC for God's sake.

Carl, my only issue with WVU is its location...it is further north than the University of Indiana...that being said, it would put the SEC closer to Big Ten country...

Have you ever been to WV? It is culturally closer to KY, TN, western NC, and western VA. In other words, hillbilly.

yes, but it is far away, and not really considered "southeastern"...and before you say Texas is not "southeastern", there are social studies textbooks that include Texas in the "Southeastern" region of the US.

It's certainly an issue, but I'd rather their tradition than someone like USF, who has none. If FSU is out, I think I might prefer Missouri at the moment, but I'd need to think about it a little more. Not that it matters one iota what I think.

meh, I just like the fact that the SEC is truly schools from the southeastern part of the US...it's an identity thing.

WVU is a stones throw away from the Pennsylvania line. Pennsylvania!

We don't need any "Northern" schools added to the S.E.C.. (That includes Virginia Tech and Missouri). Too far north.

Wanna add northern schools, then change the name to the "Unified Yankee - Rebel Conference" or the
"Consolidated - Union - Confederate Conference."

I don't even like Kentucky in the S.E.C.. They need to be in the Big Ten.

Hey, just add A + M, boot UK to the B10 and be done with 12.
