Was that really the case or is it because you guys didn't even know if the SEC was looking? Seems like it took ATM coming for you guys to go "Ohh the SEC really looking to expand?" and started to push hard for the SEC.

OF course I could be wrong and you guys could have viewed the SEC as second best. Just want to hear it from the fans.

As someone living in MO, it's because of the same reason SEC fans don't want them. They fit geographically and culturally. They claim academically but they would be mid tier in academics in the SEC according to the recent report.

When I heard about a possible move to the b1g I was not excited and more concerned with losing our rivalry with Kansas. Now I don't care if we lose that game if we can play in the sec.

From the other side of the border: It started with Mizzou being unhappy with a lot of things the Big-12 was doing (moving the league office out of KC, not playing the CG often enough in Arrowhead, giving Mizzou crap bowls when they had a better record than teams going to nicer bowls) and the fact that the Big-10 only had 11 teams and was looking to expand. They made noises about the Big-10 almost 2 years ago but Nebraska c-blocked them and then they were stuck in an unhappy marriage. I don't think the SEC option would have come up if not for A&M, but now it's the best possible scenario for both sides (Mizzou gets out from under Bevo's thumb in an unstable conference, and the SEC gets an even number of teams, with an AAU school and sizeable TV markets besides).
Mizzou to the SEC is a win-win for both, even if it didn't start out that way.

Don't get me wrong I want to drive 30 minutes and see SEC play, but as an SEC fan before I attended Mizzou, they will not know what hit them when/if SEC fans roll into town.

I have been to UK, UTk, Vandy, Bama, LSU, Arky, Notre Dame, Mizzou, and UF. Mizzou will have to REALLY step up their game in facilities and fan passion to make the grade. I don't think fans really understand what is expected of an SEC team.

Wait.... so you're a self hating missouri alum? Where the hell do you want your school to go? THe B1G isn't calling anymore, and the Big 12 is a skidmark of a conference.

I'm totally not getting this.

I became a UT fan at ~13 during the season where UT beat Miami in the Sugar Bowl. I later applied to UT and got accepted but started at Mizzou because of instate tuition. I left Mizzou and joined the Navy and served on the USS LaSalle the command ship for the Middle Eastern fleet in the Persian Gulf during the first PG war. Finished my degree with another school.

Get it now?

My father did 28 years in the Army, three tours in Vietnam (infantry), retired E-9, I served in the gulf during the first gulf war, as an A&M fan I hope you respect that with the tradition of A&M and their military officer corps.

And your military record is relevant to conference expansion how again?

Not only moving to the Big Ten would have provided stability for Mizzou's future, it would have provided better commutes to away games for its fans/athletes and a cheaper travel budget. Look at the concentration of Big Ten schools that would be far more accessible than Big 12 or SEC road trips. The only school that is beyond reasonable driving distance for a Mizzou fan would be Penn State. Imagine how terrible the yearly drive would be to a SCar, UGA, and UF game if Mizzou gets told they have to go to the SEC East.

That second map is a bit outdated. Nebraska should also be a red dot.

Mizzou wanting Big Ten as their first choice was probably more about conveniences and budget than about any other factor including competition and being in the superawesome AAU club.

Yep, got it.

Good on you for joining the Navy.

I'd hesitate to throw around military cred on the internet. First, it isn't relevant, and second, more people are vets than you'd think. Even on the SECr.

Cool though.

If Notre Dame would have said yes to the Big10, Mizzou would have gone in with them (13&14)

I remember rumors of Mizzou to the Big Ten going back to the early 90’s after Penn St. moved. Of course those were just that, rumors, and no one took them too seriously, but they were there. Then last year, when the Big 12 was blowing up we heard Mizzou to the Big 10 was a “done deal”. Mizzou “insiders” who have had a very good track record of knowing these things said there was a deal on both sides but Delaney pulled it at the very last minute.

I remember that time all too well because we all thought we were heading to the Mountain West or best case scenario, the Big East. NO ONE thought the SEC was a possibility. It wasn’t on anyone’s radar. Not because we didn’t have interest, but because we didn’t even think it was an option.

Now that we know that the SEC is a very real possibility, it is the first choice of the overwhelming majority of Mizzou fans. Can you find some who still pine for the Big 10 or want to stay in the 12? Sure, but they are not representative of most fans.

Great map. Mizzou fits in with the Big Ten very well in regards to Columbia's location to other B1G schools. Mizzou should just stay in the Big 12 and wait it out for the B1G.

Just curious. Is that including or excluding TAMU? I recalled seeing a lot of Texans when I was still in the military.

more servicemembers come from texas than any other state. regionally, most come from the south than anywhere else. with a&m in the sec, it's even bigger.

I think the whole Big 10 thing is blown out of context. Most MU fans I know didn't want anything to do with the Big 10. I also think that most fans that wanted in the big 10 were only wanting in their to get out of the Big 12.

Notice the difference. This year when Missouri fans hear that the SEC was interested they started e-mailing, texting and tweeting like crazy to the curators to hurry up and get to the SEC. I don't remember hearing about that kind of enthusiasm last year for the Big 10.

I like most Missouri fans last year never ever thought the best conference in the country would come calling for Mizzou. But here we are and it looks like MU could be a member of the SEC pretty soon.

We never had a grassroots campaign, in which thousands of emails were sent trying to convince our leadership to move to the Big 10. Actually there was no fan campaign at all. Only to go to the SEC.
