He was on College Gameday this morning and he said that any new addition can't be from Texas and it must have a good football program.

So they aren't expecting to add anyone outside of a BYU?

Big 12 is done. This is like watching a train wreck in slow motion. It will collapse again soon.

Technically he said that there was hesitancy from the members to add another Texas school, but that geography and the quality of the program are paramount.

My guess is UT wants nothing to do with TCU, so Neinas will try to get BYU before he bothers with TCU or even Houston. He made no mention of academics though, and since the geography stipulation was pretty vague, Boise might be in play as well.

That's not what he said. He said there has been some resistance to adding a school from Texas. He emphasized the word "some". Big difference.

He also say being a drivable distance from conference memers and being a successful program are important. That eliminates Louisville and Boise and WV.

BYU sounds like their top candidate. Air Force would be a good one too, because they'd be a travel partner for BYU and they have a respectable program.

Hard to pick a third. Boise has a solid program but brings nothing to the table in terms of televisions, academics, or non-revenue sports.

It's too bad Gibson Hall isn't interested in getting its act together, because Tulane would be a good candidate if it had a decent football or MBB program.

The remaining members only want one new addition.

I would love to see Tulane rise out of football's ash can and get serious again about playing real college ball. It might help that old, great rivalry between the Wave and Tigers catch some traction and fire again. Back in the day, those were always the best games (even knowing LSU was going to win). Tulane was a true gut-deep rival in ways only the Ole Miss rivalry could approach. And then when Tulane finally won a couple... wow!

True, and I think they should get back to 12 teams, but I wouldn't hold my breath. They didn't seem bothered to find replacements for Nebraska and Colorado, and Dodds has been pretty vocal about the preference of a 10-team league because getting to a NCG is "more clear".

Your post was coincidental and it's actually the other way around. I was just visiting with one of DFW's top sports radio hosts and a leading sportswriter here for years just about an hour ago who said TCU doesn't want anything to do with the Big 12---like many others, they can't stand UT and that TCU's administrators and big money backers don't won't to be associated with them in any manner whatsoever.

Good info.

I knew TCU's AD had expressed concern about the future of the Big East, so I was assuming they would at least listen if the Big 12 came calling. But it doesn't surprise me that TCU wants nothing to do with them.

Pre Syracuse and Pitt defection, thats right. TCU knows right now that if we pass on the Big 12, it's fairly likely they could grab Lousiville and further cripple our new home in the Big East. A lot of TCU fans are hoping for BYU to go and the rest of the Big East to remain intact.

Hell, even if they don't grab Louisville, the Big 12 with TCU is still more stable than the Big East.

I'll admit that I paraphrased but what do you think that means?

The fact that Kansas is being totally ignored in these discussions tells me that men's basketball is a non-factor. That's why Jim Boeheim vented earlier this week.

Right, but Texas and OU have had little trouble beating a team from another division in that league before. How often will an unbeaten OU or UT lose to a BYU/WVU/Mizzou/K-State in a Big12 Title Game?

Perhaps they feel that way after getting snubbed because TCU certainly wanted to get into the Big 12 a year ago.

Always a possibility, but the way Randy stated it is that TCU's higher up's don't want anything to do with UT and their arrogant attitudes. Kind of surprised me, but based on UT's "bullyish" position I clearly understand. Personally, I think TCU would be a great add and bring a lot to that league. They have a bigger following than a lot of people give them credit for. Of course, their recent successes have helped that persona. But Randy said it "ain't gonna happen".....and not because of what Neinas said, but because they just don't want to affiliated with them.
