Missouri ( everyone wants in the SEC)

Is it just me who is angry at the SEC for letting Missouri into the SEC, Texas a&m brings something but Missouri brings nothing to the table but to weaken our conference. For years the SEC was looked upon as a less appealing conference, now that we have established our true dominance, no spread offense, not trick plays , just big boy football, now every clown is trying to beat down the SEC door. and for more money our governing body will let anyone in. We used say we had strength of schedule that no other conference could compare to but now it's getting out of hand.give me your thoughts.

nope it's not just you nobody wants them in. FWIW if the big 10 invites them they won't come to the SEC. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconbanana1.gif)

OK, first let me say that I understand the pot v kettle irony here, posting this opinion as a Hog fan, but hopefully two decades in the league has built up enough equity for me to comment...
Missouri offers nothing to enrich our conference. In no major sport are they going to be competitive. Historically, they have not been competitive. No Final Fours. No BCS bowls. Their fans do not travel. They sit smack in the middle of a state bordered on each side by MLB and NFL teams, and on the eastern border, they have an NHL team. The sports entertainment dollars in that state are spread thin, and they most often are directed at the professional leagues.
Culturally, the Missouri fan has absolutely nothing in common with us. They are full-on midwestern. They are not Southern. They just don't know what a Fall Saturday is supposed to look, smell and feel like. And they never will.
Finally, they have stated publically that the Big Ohio/Michigan Conference was their preference, but since those folks wanted no part of them, they will "settle" for SEC membership. That alone should exclude them from consideration. For the only time in known recorded history, the "Big ten" actually got something right that the SEC is apparently ready to get so terribly wrong - they had the sense to say "no, thanks" to Missouri.

It has nearly 3 Million people in the metro area it brings something to the table.

agreed
its really sad. seems like we are selling out the greatness of this conference for some bottom dwellers with new TV markets
all about money, trying to get a bigger TV contract for the SEC (which if you follow the money, only will result in higher cable bills for us fans. ESPN charges Cox/Comcast/TimeWarner more for the content b/c they are paying more for it. In turn Cox/Comcast/TimeWarner is gonna turn around and pass the extra cost onto its customers)
Its funny how we all pound our chest over getting a huge SEC TV deal, but in the end the fans are the ones who end up paying for these huge deals with higher cable bills.
But to your point, Missouri offers NOTHING... even their fans are bland and boring and seem like they could care less if they never compete in this conference.
the SEC sold out

I agree. I dont mind eexpansion but Mizzou brings nothing to the table as far as I'm concerned.

For me, an Arkansas transplant now living in the KC area, the upside of the move would be that local media - tv, newspaper, talk radio - would have to devote more time to SEC talk, which would be incredible.
However, the question I have about those television sets is this: I understand there are LOTS of tv's, and tv's translate to bargaining power when negotiating television contracts. However, do we know the REAL impact of those televisions as it translates to actually tuning to telecasts of Missouri sports. I can tell you from living in KC, I see more KU and KSU stickers/flags than I do Missouri, and the among the 3 schools, it is not a 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 split. I'd say KU and KSU have about 75% of the college paraphernalia that I see in the community, with Missouri and other random schools (Pittsburg State, Arkansas, OU, Nebraska, Iowa, etc) thrown in for good measure. And then, there's LOTS more Chiefs/Royals stuff here than Missouri.
While I understand there are lots of tv's to be gained, I just don't know that there are a lot more Missouri loyal viewers to be gained.

USCe , at least have competetive baseball, kentucky is basketball school, always in reach of a final 4

I wish there was a conference expansion board

i wonder if the sec is looking forward to further expansions and hedging their bets on the big 12 eventually imploding for good. then using mizzou to lure ok and ok state into the sec. just trying to find an upside with this stuff besides missouri being an aau school and, well, i don't know.

there is conferenc expansion, view the list to your left of the screen, i missed it too.

Look, this whole thing is about money, you know. EVERY thing eventually comes down to money.
Also, in a few years, there are going to only be 4 'Super' conferences, 16 teams each, a total of 64 teams. Conferences will be split into 8 team divisions, with conference championship games like we have now. Then there will be a playoff amongst the 4 winners to determine the national champions.
There is just too much money involved for this not to happen.
As far as Missouri, true, athletically they may not be the cream of the crop, but the SEC has already said 'no duplicity' of states. I personally think now that Texas and Missouri (tentative) have been added to the states roll, the next two will probably be North Carolina and (maybe) West Virginia (or Virginia, if Va. Tech expresses interest).
Just the way I envision things shaking out over time.

Anybody that's ever been to MO knows those weird frickers won't fit in. And their team sucks. I didn't want aTm either, but at least they're SORT OF like an SEC team/fanbase. I'd much rather have stayed at 12 teams.

Nobody is excited about Missouri
I had thought I had seen a non exciting team arrive when A&M came on board... but then Missouri came into the picture and made A&M feel like Oklahoma
