LSU Chancellor can “safely say” Missouri would be a good fit

LSU chancellor to be panelist at conference
quote:
As for the talk of Missouri becoming the SEC’s 14th member, Martin can “safely say” the college would be a good fit as a land-grant university near a large media market that would add prestige as an Association of American Universities member.
But Martin said there is no rush toward further growth as a “super conference,” especially because every decision has been “reactive” instead of based on a proper vision.
“In some ways the SEC is in the driver’s seat, but we’re not necessarily comfortable, because we’re not sure where we’re driving,” Martin said.
Martin said he believes stopping at 14 SEC teams is appropriate, rather than expanding to 16.
Missouri is a fine school, one that's produced some very good journalists -- and Jon Hamm. Gary Pinkel has done a remarkable job with the football program, winning at least 10 games in three of the past four seasons. But Missouri fits the SEC about as well as Stephen Garcia would a dry county. The SEC is about 90,000 seat stadiums and rabid fan bases. A ranked Mizzou team had 13,000 empty seats at its opener. The SEC is about fourth-generation Alabama and Ole Miss alums in khakis and sun dresses. Mizzou is in the Midwest, where the folks like their hoodies. The SEC is about parking your RV at the other team's stadium five days before the game. Columbia is a 16-hour drive from Gainesville. And no disrespect to Pinkel, but those 10-win seasons came in part thanks to being a member of the now-defunct Big 12 North. In the SEC Missouri would likely join the West, with Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn and LSU. Enjoy the BBVA Compass Bowl.
In other words. Mizzou needs to announce withdrawal from the Big 12 for us to consider.

14 is all we need. We could not have stayed at 12 if everyone else did expand to 16. However, going to 14 is a very good business move on our ends.

I was shocked to hear any SEC university official say anything other than "no comment" when asked about a particular school.

Mandel is a B1G homer--he's holding out hope for Mizzou there.
Mizzou/UF fans would be making that 16-hour drive about once every seven years. And I'm a LSU fan and I LOVE hoodies.
What bowls has Mizzou been getting from the Big-12? The Insight bowl?
Here's some insight. Mizzou would be much better off in the SEC.

Mizzou pick up your asses and start the move now! The chancellor of the number 1 rank team said "you're a good fit."
You guys are in like flynn!

So is Mandel going to have 8 teams in the West and 6 in the East?
