Is this a 5 year or 100 year decision for Mizzou?

It is widely accepted that the Big10 is their conference of choice. While the Big has been surprisingly silent, I doubt they are waiting in the shadows for a UMo announcement (although nothing would surprise me).

But ..... if they get the call in the future, does UMo leave the SEC? IMO - SEC/UMo is relatively short term.

There are only two scenarios in which they leave, and the first is not really leaving:

o If the B1G came calling before they actually joined the SEC, then it would be likely that they would jump ship, or

o if it became clear that joining the SEC was an unmitigated disaster.

I don't think either one is likely.

The Big10 is the only conference that could potentially raid the SEC.

$$$ won't be a factor when the SEC Network is equal to or more profitable than the Big 10 network, thanks in part to the states of Texas and Mizzou adding to the footprint.

I think Mizzou makes the decision to come to the SEC within 5 years, but the way they're going it might be a 100!

It's no secret. I can't imagine why the SEC would knowingly take in a new member that has made it clear we are their second-choice, runner-up conference.

i agree. maybe unmitigated disaster is a bit strong but if they realize it was a mistake and the exit fee is not too onerous they might do it. of course, we are talking about a team leaving before they even join.

I would make it to where Missouri had to pay a ridiculous amount of money to leave the SEC.

Mizzou would leave the SEC for the Big 10 in a heartbeat and that is why I do not want them.

mizzou is keeping the #14 seat warm while vt, fsu, unc, clemson prepare to settle in permanently.

Please think this through. Why does the SEC want Mizzou? Answer: to expand the footprint for additional tv markets. The reason they want to do this is to establish an SEC network. Mizzou wants to be a part of this. In order to establish an SEC network it will require the member schools to give up their tv rights to the network (all tiers) for a long period. This is how the Big 10 network was possible. I believe they have given up their rights for 20 - 25 years. This is stronger than any exit fee you can come up with. Mizzou knows they will have to do this going in. Mizzou has made a 100 year decision. Sorry to break it to you, but you're stuck with us...for better or for worse!

Truthfully I think the whole Missouri wants the Big 10 is over stated. The whole thing was started by Big 10 blogs speaking of Missouri as a good fit and from their it seemed to take a life of it's own. I never have seen any proof that anyone in power at MU even talked to the Big 10 or vice-versa. Most things said about it were said in the media by anonymous sources which are probably the same anonymous sources who tried to sub-marine this SEC invite with their stupid blurbs about the SEC being MU's second choice. That was viewed by most MU fans as an overt attempt by one source to try and get the SEC to not invite MU.

I do believe their are some intellectual stuck-ups that want to get in the Big 10 including the Governor of Missouri. But always remember Jay Nixon aka the Missouri Governor is an idiot and don't pay any attention to him. I also think it is an extreme minority.

I will say that most of the noise about going to the Big 10 was from the fan-base. And the fact is I think most of the fan-base was just happy to feel wanted and never dreamed that the SEC would have even wanted Missouri.

You have to remember that this fan-base basically felt it was in an abusive marriage and most wanted out. They saw a conference where universities actually thrived working together for the common good in the Big 10 and any fan who felt voiceless for 12 years would jump up and down at the thought of getting out.

From what I've read and heard the curators recived thosands of e-mails since it's been mentioned the SEC might want MU for their 14th team and the fan-base is energized and excited about the possibility of being invited to the Best Conference there is. In my opinion Missouri will be happy in the SEC and will not want to go anywhere.

When your running with the best why look at the rest and we all know the SEC is the BEST!!!
