Texas and OU will both get over $20M under the new contract with Big 12...A&M and most of the others will get $17M.
Monopoly money...

Its a discussion board for fricks sake. You go bury your head if you have nothing to offer.
no one said its likely, something they would love to see or is even a good idea. But only the foolish would never at least consider different possibilities, no matter how outlandish they may seem.

then you are the definition of a bandwagon fan.
The only reason a fan should change teams is if the team physically moves. (ie Jazz from NO to Utah, Oilers from Houston to Tenn).

Nope. Complete stupidity, ignorance, greed, and self-solicited destruction would be sufficient for me.

Worst idea ever. There would definitely be a void in my life if we played TTech and Iowa State instead of Bama and Ole Miss every year.

I can't believe I just read all the post in this thread. LSU leave the SEC for the Big 12.....hell would freeze over!

IF LSU moves over to the Big XII, it would be a great time for a UNIFORM CHANGE... maybe wear some Purple Helmets or something.

These are all nothing but your opinions, at the end of the day its what conference you prefer and simple Texas hatred/envy. If you'd dump your team over a move to a different conference, you are not a true fan, sorry. Especially when you factor in Arky would be moving back to a conference (basically) that they were part of for 60 or so years and they would certainly not do it if they were to make less in revenue.

My convictions.

I don't hate or envy Texas. I do have a healthy awareness of what would be foolish.

This isn't just a different conference. It's a conference of complete and total Texas bullshite. Have you not figured that out?

Why do you think we left? You don't think (77 years) was enough time for us to figure out what's going on? Do your homework, I did mine years ago.

Some things involve more than money.

I dunno chicken, I'm trying to find the latest articles on the top grossing conference overall.
However, I'm still finding articles from 07 and up, and the SEC has 9 out of the top 20 most valuable teams in college football according to value and profit margin. Source is Forbes, fwiw.
LINK
I'm having trouble finding an article that takes into account the ESPN deal.
As far as the teams go, this is the latest article I can find from Forbes:

My post was NOT directed at you. However, since you seem to warrant a reply and feel this topic is worth discussing - here you go....
The SEC will distribute EVENLY approximately $209.0 million to the 12 league institutions in the revenue sharing plan for the 2009-10 fiscal year, which ends Aug. 31, 2010. This is the highest total ever distributed in SEC history and represents a 57.7 percent increase from the $132.5 million distributed to the schools in 2008-2009.
The revenue sharing plans include money generated by football tv, bowls, the SECCG, basketball tv, the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament and NCAA Championships.
Broken down by categories and rounded off, the $132.5 mil was derived from $109.5 mil from football television, $26.5 mil from bowls, $14.5 mil from the SECCG, $30.0 mil from basketball tv, $5.0 mil from the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament and $23.5 mil from NCAA Championships.
The average amount distributed to each school was $17.3 million.
NOT included in the $209.0 mil was $14.3 mil retained by the institutions participating in bowls and $780,000 divided among all 12 institutions by the NCAA for academic enhancement.
Revenues derived by the institutions from its local media packages as well as from other conference initiatives are not included in the total amount.
-----------------------------
Now, given this information, why on earth is this "discussion" even given merit? Also keeping in mind that the SEC is THE #1 football conference.
Going to a conference that is clearly in turmoil and by all indicators, probably won't last another 3-5 years due to the greed of UT. AND, the fact that most of its members still have wandering eyes and will jump at the first legit opportunity to be in a conference that has EQUAL revenue sharing and better chances at getting into a BCS Bowl game.

No sir, only the foolish would even consider this as a possibility and/or worthy of a discussion because of the above $$$ figures and the prestige of being in the preeminent conference.
My "damn strong" institution is not going anywhere.
Have a great day!

I Smell something a brewing especially with Jerry Jones tied to this. Kick the lower guys like the Iowa States and Baylor out. Then add some teams maybe like Arkansas, LSU, Notredame, and New Mexico?
this has steam though and they are talking about it. So some power brokers are working on something.

Damn, mtnhghTiger pretty much nailed it! I also agree with Porky. I would rather roll around in Hog slop, no offense, than to play in a conference with Texas. Lets get real here, 1 billion would never be on the table to leave. But even if it was apples to apples, or even if the Big 12 offered a few million more, I would still want to stay in the SEC. We've been hanging with these states we play since the 1860's, no reason to stick a knife in our other SEC brothers over a few extra bucks. I think by the time you add up tv contracts, bowl revenue, coupled with other sponsors payout like Nike and sports drinks and on and on the SEC makes plenty of cold hard cash. Everybody is judging just tv revenue and there is more cash than just that being made in other ways. God I love LSU sports and there is nothing better than playing the other teams in the SEC. Geaux Tigers!!!

Yeah but what would you say to a guaranteed 5 million dollars a year more, a championship game every year at Jerry World, and a guaranteed BCS National Championship game for the winner. This has legs and a Super 12 conference would be awesome. LSU and Arkansas are both west of the Mississippi not really geographical the southeast.

Honestly I love the idea. We are a lot closer to Texas than Knoxville. Iowa State is another issue but I proposed this years ago and I was told to shove it

because the information you have provided is based on the PAST, will it always be that way? Who knows? Is it beyond the realm of possibility that more revenue could be made in a different conference? Certainly not.

No sir, only fools think things will always be as they are today. I didn't say LSU should move to the Big 12, I said for discussion purposes its worth at least considering. The currect SEC rev sharing per your numbers is about $17M, isn't that what is being reported that each of the lesser teams (ie not UT, OU and A&M) getting? Surely to consider a move LSU or Ark for that matter would want more than they were getting, if not, then its a dead issue no question.
