SEC would rather go West and pickup new television markets, especially Texas market. FSU, GA Tech, Clemson don't add that. It about the money and TV contracts, not "bigboy stadiums" or your personal dislike for Texas.

and also

The SEC leads in ratings.

no it doesnt. The big 10 crushes the SEC nationally.

The SEC plays on ESPN which is by far the granddaddy of media markets.

nope, wrong again

last year coverage on ABC averaged a 4.0 rating and 4,598,000 households compared to ESPN averaged 1,931,000 households and 2.0 rating

The SEC only covers 3 of the top 25 media markets in the US....whereas the Big Ten covers 7

No yall are to oblivious to realize that the rest of the nation does in fact care about the SEC........Why do you think ESPN just signed them up for 15 years?

LSU vs Bama last year on CBS drew some pretty high numbers from what I recall.

I mean Herbstreit just reiterated my point on CFB stating that you could combine the 2 conferences with the PAC 10 and the Big 12 and the SEC would still be the strongest conference.

Dude this again proves my point we have 3, 3 of the major markets yet we signed that billion dollar contract with ESPN.

AND ESPN IS CABLE.........ABC is local.

Compare the CBS share vs the ABC share and see whats up............the contract is for CBS/ESPN.

I don't hate Texas............I just enjoy getting their great athletes cause they want to play in the SEC!

The SEC will be stuck with Clemson, Ga Tech, FSU

I doubt the SEC would go after schools in states where we already have market share. So FSU, Miami, GTech and Clemson areprobably out.

VTech, WVU maybe NCState would be the schools looked at IMO. That way the SEC would be expanding its market into the Virginias, and North Carolina.

Remember, it's about the money, not necessarily the matchups.

That said, there's a compelling reason to raid Texas. That would be a HUGE pickup in terms of market share.

Why is the Big 10 getting brought into a conversation about Pac 10 vs SEC?

We can't control how many people live in the south........FACT

But no one can argue that more people watch SEC football nationally. THE BIG 10 has major media markets but if you took out the those 7 media markets and looked at the nation and what they are watching say in Maine or South Dakota at 2:30pm its the SEC matchup of the week.

It doesn' tmatter, it's about revenue generated. Between the Big 10's TV deal and their Big 10 Cable Network, that conference paid out more than any other conference per team. The SEC was second - the Big 12 and Pac 10 were on the bottom of the list.

THAT is wahat Delaney was waiting for, to see how well his cable plan worked. Now that he sees it as a money-maker, he wants to expand it into new states.

Make no mistake, Big 10 comissioner Jim Delaney is driving this bus.

I understand that part of it but we were talking about the strongest football conference not most revenue.........

I guess that depends on your perspective.

Like I said, Jim Delaney is driving this bus, he's the one instigating all the changes, his conference is the big dog in terms of revenue and viewership.

All the SEC teams do is win National Championships.

When we're in the BCSCG, yes, Big 10 fans are watching us. When we play Bama, or UF plays UT, Big 10 fans are watching hockey or curling or some shite on their dedicated conference cable channel.

One thing I have not seen mentioned yet with the thought of adding UT and A&M is how would this effect our recruiting in Texas? Most kids we grab want to come play for the SEC and we are close to home. If they were in the SEC I don't see how we would fair as well in the recruiting aspect. Thoughts?

I think schools like OU would look a lot less attractive to Texas recruits if they played in the Pac10, never played UT or TAMU and had no exposure in Texas. OU gets great players from Texas every year, that would change with UT and TAMU in the SEC and OU in the Pac10.

LSU on the other hand would be playing those two every year, it would probably help recruiting in Texas with good showings.

That's a good question.

It does seem like the Texas kids that leave Texas for the SEC might just go ahead and stay now.

Keep in mind too that LSU generally signs only about 50% of its class from Louisiana. It seems like we have relied on Texas for QBs often, as Louisiana QBs tend to be more run-oriented than pass.

It would be interesting to see if aTm could elevate itself from its current Mississippi level up to more of an LSU/UF/UGA/AU level.
