My personal preference is WVU, although I don't know if they would make the best #14. I think they would be a great choice at #16 with a Virginia and NC school added to make everything contiguous.

If 16 is the plan.

I would think you SEC fans would understand a little more - those posting WV is average or lousy FB school, small fan base, etc., then you howl about how great FSU is. or NC State, etc. Check out how FSU travels - don't bother - they don't. NCSt?? There are FIVE Major universities in NC, and State is NOT first - I think there are more ECU fans than State fans in NC (I live in NC) and WVU has dedicated sports coverage and sports reporters from the Pittsburg TV and paper - there are exactly 100 Pitt fans in Pittsburgh. Over the past 6 years, WVU has averaged 10 wins per year, two conf. titles, and 2 BCS bowl wins - how many does A&M have??? hmmmmm? - learn your facts - but actually, Slive already knows all the facts and which team(s) would bring the most.

The SEC isn't a notorious academic league, nor should it be. Academics are overrated in choosing your affiliated programs. It's an athletic conference.

I think WVU definitely fits in well with other SEC schools.

WVU facilities are on par with or better than at least a few SEC schools, like Arkansas, Ole Miss, Miss St and Kentucky.

If the SEC goes to 16 teams, the additions I think would be ideal, in addition to A&M are:
WVU
FSU
VA Tech (or) Clemson (or) UNC

If just 14, then in addition to A&M, it's gotta be WVU - they're a natural fit.

I don't see how WVU is a natural fit.

As many people have said, they don't bring that much in terms of TV viewers outside of the WV market, and honestly that isn't a demographic that networks/advertisers are looking for. They want eyes from cities like Atlanta, Houston, DC, etc - not Morgantown, Charleston and such. And no I do do not see WV pulling much marketshare in DC, Pittsburg, Baltimore, etc.

Also, WVU doesn't have natural southern rivalries. Their traditional rivalry games are with Pitt (1895-now) and Maryland (1919-2007). I just don't see them turning into an annual rivals game against anyone in the SEC.

When you look at FSU and VT, you are looking at schools that bring a lot more eyes on them - either VT because of the Virginia/MD/DC area or FSU because of the sheer number of people nationwide who are Noles fans, just like there are large numbers of ND and tOSU fans nationwide.

Witheither of those schools you also bring a more natural rivalry into the east. Right now outside of UGA/UF you could say that the biggest rivalry in the SEC east is Tenn/Florida, and that has only occured in the last 20 years since the divisional split. If you bring in FSU, you automatically have FSU/UF as a season ending rivalry that can impact the division winner/BCS outlook - much like you see with Auburn and Bama in the Iron Bowl. If you bring in VT, I think they would quickly move to the top of Tenn's most hated schools. The campuses are only a couple of hours apart, and fans have been clamoring to see them lay outside of a bowl game. At one time there was talk of somehow working a football field into the infield/garage area at Bristol and having the two teams play there. Could you imagine the draw - both on tv and in person - of a UT/VT game with 165,000 in the stands?

You don't think so, I do. Opinions are what's fun about college ball. But here's why I think they are a good fit:
1. WVU brings a pretty strong following, a solid football tradition, and according to all I have seen and heard, yes they do have a great viewing fan base in Pittsburgh, as well as Charleston and Morgantown. So that would expand the SEC footprint.
2. West Virginia is more Southern than a lot of us realize; the mountain people have lots of the same traditions as those in the mountains of TN, KY, and north Alabama. I think they would fall right into rivalries with UK and UT, as well as LSU (since we're playing them this year). Plus they might keep on playing PITT and that can only enhance the SEC footprint even more.

Don't get me wrong, there was nobody more disappointed than me when FSU chose not to come into the SEC back about 20 years ago.

I wouldn't be disappointed if they came in now, but as one living in Florida already, I don't see that the rivalry between them and UF could get much more intense than it is today. Of course, put in an East Div. championship and trip to the SECCG in the mix and that could push things up a few more notches. For sure the SEC would own most of Florida from that point on. And that could be costly to USF and UCF, both rising programs in the state and regional scene.

another poster who knows little about WVU. While the old traditional rivalry is Pitt, the mosted HATED rival of WV in all but the northern part of the state, is the VPI Chokies!!!! There is HATE, Bigtime Hate here. Best move would be adding WVU AND VPI - now you got yourselves a new bloodlust rivalry

WV has not even played VPI since 2005, yet carouse the WVU board (bluegoldnews) or VPI (techsideline) and you will STILL see the massive hate, even now. Yeah, I hate Pitt, but it's VPI that I and many Moutaineers Hate the Most

you are fricking stupid

WVA does not give you DC either. DC is an ACC town with MD and UVA and then Big East hoops town and Big Ten with Penn State and first and foremost a Redskins town.
WVU biggest alumni group is in DC im a DC native and i wont argue about it being a redskins town but its a cluster frick when it comes to college following no one offers the DC market

Would be huge IMO

I just think wvu fits in with the SEC better than Missouri, Florida state, or Clemson.

I'd say no team delivers DC, but the order of popularity goes about like this:

Maryland
VT
WVU
UVa

But WVU could climb if they were in the SEC. VT wasn't even on the radar two decades ago.

I agree. This is why VT is far and away a better choice

better fit than Missouri? Definitely

better fit than Clemson? possibly

Better fit than FSU? Not even close

Best fits with all things considered?
1a. FSU
1b. VT

3. WV
4. Everyone else mentioned

After hanging out with wva fans at last years game, i think they fit right in. They were funloving drinkers and theY travelled well. I had a great time with them and would love to play them more. Not the best reason but that is why i vote wva for 14
