Geno Auriemma Says It's All Notre Dame's Fault

UConn coach Geno Auriemma believes the Big East conference's realignment issues could have been solved years ago with one simple move -- Notre Dame's football team joining the league.
"They've been in our league 17 years, so how long are we going to date before we just decide this ain't working. And I'm not happy about it," Auriemma said at the conference's annual women's basketball media day Thursday. "That's not the opinion of the University of Connecticut, the Big East Conference. ... That's just Geno Auriemma's opinion."
"If Notre Dame had come in as a football and basketball school when they came in, we wouldn't have a problem. Miami wouldn't have left. Virginia Tech wouldn't have left. Boston College wouldn't have left. We probably wouldn't have any of these issues, would we?" Auriemma said.

At least Notre Dame is Independent in football, unlike Texas who wants to have its cake and eat it too.

There may be some truth to that, but he's just mad that if the Big East folds, UCONN have to resort to the A10 or some other mid major conference.

He should be mad at their crappy football team. If they were worth anything, the ACC would have scooped them up by now with that huge TV market they're in.

They took a multi million dollar hit on their BCS game last year because something like 900 fans showed up.

I would not be surprised if UConn went to Big Ten with ND one day.
I cant think of any other ACC/Big East school deserving of Big Ten.***

I can see the Big Ten choosing Rutgers over UConn.

This proves they don't belong in 1-A. They should go back down to 1-AA with Villanova, Georgetown, UMass and all the other East coast basketball schools.

I'd tend to agree.
I haven't heard of any other BCS bowl participant taking a major bath on their payout, no matter how small the school, how bad the team, or how far they had to travel for the game.
Not Pitt in 2004, when they were one of the worst teams in BCS bowl history until last year's UCONN team and got stomped by Utah in the Fiesta Bowl.
Not Wake Forest in 2007, when they were the school with the smallest enrollment ever to play in a BCS Bowl down in Miami.
Not Hawaii in 2007, when they were a BCS Buster playing 8.5 hours away from the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans and had massive travel costs to attend as a result.

nd doesn't need the big east the big east needs ND. ND can join the big 10 whenever it wants.

I think it would be Boston College

The New Orleans restaurant and hotel owners said that Hawaii's fans dumped as much money into the city as any participant in Sugar Bowl history.

I'm surprised they had any left over after budgeting for their meth.

I remember reading a article from the Connecticut newspaper in which some of the folks at the school were actually looking for ways to get out of the Fiesta Bowl after they found that they were on the hook for a certain number tickets and hotel rooms.

Yea I remember that, too. What a joke. Like you said earlier, they should not be an FBS program.

He's still bitter over last year's Final Four loss to the Irish.

I think both Rutgers and UConn could be big for a good conference, but it would take a leap of faith because they are definitely not there now.
Having a potential Notre Dame/Michigan/OSU at Rutgers or UConn would go a long way to building up their fan support. That would get the NYC people off their asses to support one of those teams, instead of watching UConn vs. South Florida in front of 15,000 people.
