I really, really hope your athletic department keeps thinking along these lines. I really do. If you're a recruit, do you want to play in a conference that's playing for national championships year in and year out? Or in a conference that might implode at any second and offers road trips to the stunning football venues of Ames, Iowa, and Waco, Texas?

The SEC being in Texas certainly won't help UT recruiting, especially compared to what will be a pathetic Big 8.

For a team that has no shot at competing for the national championship? You are delusional.
Recruits want to play for a team with a history of winning.

I called Verizon. Told them that they needed to get the SEC Network and cancel the Bevo Network because once A&M joins, everyone will want to watch and learn about the SEC. Everyone already knows about Bevo and frankly... nobody cares.

FIFY
recruits don't care how the program did 40 years ago, they care about how it did last season.

All of those recruits will then jump on board a team that hasn't won a national championship since 1939 because they are playing in tougher conference and will likely have a worse record.

What is this guy high? He means BU right?
No, little Baylor man, he means A&M, or rather he means that's what's being said in Austin about A&M.
Here's the context:
quote:
When Texas A&M made the decision it no longer wanted to be tied to Bevo's tail, without a doubt there was an orchestrated Aggie joke campaign coming from the vicinity of Austin.
[The reason this next part was italicized is because it's a paraphrase about what's being said in Austin - it's the aggie joke mentioned above]
The cry-baby Aggies have cut-and-run. Run right into the busy SEC intersection, where they will die a slow 5-and-7 death for ever more in football.
Nobody leaves Mother Bevo, not in this state, and lives to tell about it.
The joke is basically that A&M is jumping out of the B12 pot into the SEC fire - willingly.
Just keep in mind one thing, it's not always all about Baylor - check that, it's NEVER going to be about Baylor.

Hmm... So the Sooners have the control now. Too funny.

WRONG. Recruits want to play for the "hot" team--or the team with the most promise. Look at Boise State, then look at Michigan. Yeah, UM has the football pedigree, but resting on your laurels will get you nowhere. BSU, on the other hand, continues to make a name for itself by seeking out tough competition.
Nice try though.

Ok, so since A&M had a better season last year, they surely had a better recruiting class, right? Or they will definitely have a better recruiting class this year...

Texas has had the so called #1 recruiting class numerous times and has amounted to 1 championship. GTFO with your Texas arrogance.

Come on Drunkenguy!!! How do you think that the crumbling of the Big 12 is good for UT?
Because A&M getting away from Baylor/Tech means Texas can do the same.

A&M is going to take a bigger wedge of you recruiting base
The state of Texas cranks out about 400 FBS football players a year. We'll get a good group of 20 from that group regardless of the aggie's conference. Texas will be fine.

Longhorn football is not in a better place with A&M gone
If we end up in the Pac 16 or Big 10, it is definitely in a better place.

We're Texas. Elite kids want to play for regardless of our conference situation. That is the big difference between A&M and Texas.
quote:
Recruits want to play for a team that is currently winning.
Texas has been in the top 3 of the country 2 of the last 3 seasons. A&M hasn't had a top 5 finish in over half a century. Texas played for a national title in the last calendar year. A&M last played for a title in the 30s.

Honestly...what the hell have you guys done with the high recruiting classes you have had the last couple years. UT is gonna lose atleast 4-5 games this year hell maybe even 6. You my friend are delusional if you dont think UT will lose some recruits to A&M for joining the SEC. We all saw on a national stage what happened to UT when they played Bama. Sure A&M will get beat up, but UT would fair the same in the SEC. Joining the SEC will make A&M a stronger football program, and it helps other SEC teams get into Texas.

sounds like that might work. i actually like the idea of texas in the big 10 if you don't go independent.

It was just last Friday when there was no problem from Baylor or any other Bevo Nine school over the Aggies leaving. In fact, those schools told us the Bevo boys would soldier on, better than ever, without the dirty Aggies. What changed all of a sudden? Easy answer. The University of Oklahoma finally spoke up, that's what changed.
Exactly. Baylor will have a very hard time proving damages caused by the SEC when they raised no issue to aTm leaving at first but now want to sue the SEC after another school want to go to the Pac 12. If they need to sue anyone it is the Pac 12. Baylor's own inaction basically proves that aTm to the SEC on its own would not cause any damage to them. OU to the Pac 12 is what will cause the collapse, not aTm to the SEC.

Most B1G fans do not want Texas
While I cannot speak about "most B1G fans I can say that I was living and working in WS/IL while all the talk about UT to the Big 10 was going on just over a year ago. They wanted UT in a bad way. Their view was much the same as the SEC/aTm view is about access to the TV market and recruiting fields. They also looked at this as their way to take down some of the power of the SEC. This view was common in both WS and the Chicago area.

Seriously...I said last couple years. Dont you know we live in a what have you done for me lately society. Pfft 10 win seasons in the big 12 what a joke. Like I said UT in the SEC last year gets abused same with this year. Talking present not past..those football teams have moved on. Your present product on the field is weak sauce.
Wasnt like Colt chose to go sit on the bench, Alabama put his arse out, thats what SEC defenses do. Stop living in the past.
