Expansion Rumors.............SIAP

Listening to the radio up here in Cleveland, one of the weekend guys said he had some inside info from a source in the Big 10 on 2 things:
1. Notre Dame and Texas have had exploritory talks with the Big 10 Network...obviously regarding their addition to the Big 10 if it happened and how they could merge all 3 TV deals.
2. TAMU caught wind that OU,Texas,Okie St and Texas Tech were all having serious talks with the Pac 10. TAMU felt someway about it and felt they needed to get ahead of the curve and embarrassed by getting left behind.....that along with the Longhorn Network were all the Board of Directors needed to hear to make them want to get out of the Big 12.
Anyone else heard these 2 rumors? Take with a grain of salt as will

This I could believe.

This I cannot. TAMU would have been part of the move to the PAC last year, but they did not want to. The rumors of TX, TT, OU, and OSU this year was a response to A&M's decision to move.

Notre Dame would go Big East before Big 10 but Notre Dame is not giving up indpt status.
I'm not sure DeLoss Dodds knows what he wants to do either. Big 10 baseball would make Texas baseball irrelevant.

Restructuring those TV deals with multiple networks will take years...
Second I thing the Big 12 may stay intact... Just add BYU, TCU, and Boise St. That would improve the conference and keep it afloat

I understand this; however, I do not believe baseball drives decisions such as conference expansion. Football and Basketball do.
Just my two cents.

I don't understand why Texas baseball ceases to be relevant if Texas joins the Big 10.......

and Boise St.
Again this?
Just a step up from my local junior college academically, financially and in most cases, athletically.
6% graduation rate. Something like #545 college nationwide. $61 million endowment. What besides being a 1 trick pony in football do they bring to the table in any other sport?
TV viewers? Fans? How's Marshall doing lately?
I'd be really suprised if a BCS conference takes Boise. They just don't bring anything else.

Dr. Drunkenstein,
I really hope Texas and ND do come to the Big Ten if the super-conference thing happens. Those would be awesome additions to the conference. Come on in the water is fine.

I can believe they would meet to talk about the issue - but I find it hard to see a compromise or solution that would work for the three parties (Big 10, ND, Texas).
Not only is Texas/ND having their own networks a different approach than the Big 10 network shared resources/revenue ... they also involve more than one network (NBC & ESPN/ABC) with interests at stake

It sure seems like TX screwed the pooch on this one. Oh, they will make a lot of money, but the fan experience has got to suffer. The nearest conf opponent would be 800 mi and the rest 1000+. Not a problem for the Big 10 as that is only one trip every other year or more for a given team, but it will be a multi-time every year thing for TX.
Add on top of this the pissy attitude of if you don't do what I want, I won't play you anymore (e.g. TAMU, OU), then it really gets bad. A PAC with OU, TT, OSU, and CO would be a lot more doable.

I agree. They can still schedule a lot warm-weather schools and all the big ten teams will want to come play Texas in Feb and March. They won't lose any home games and gain more.

Texas baseball won't be irrelevant if they join the Big 10. They might find it a little harder to get host seeds, but they will still recruit well and will still play us, Rice, TCU etc early in the year when it's snowing in Big 10 country.

For the record I hope it stays intact, but BYU,TCU and Boise are a far cry from Colorado,Nebraska and TAMU. I know football is the driving force, but how good are those schools in all other sports?

How does everyone see it? Is Notre Dame just arrogant regarding football or are they concerned about getting lost in a conference due to an inferior product on the field as reasons for not joining the Big 10 or Big East in football

I'm fairly certain that this guys "inside source" is the same Northwestern U blogger talking about TU and ND to B1G. Since that was the only time that story ever surfaced, I'm just no buying it. Disc jockeys are not journalists...they are paid to make the phone ring.
