Congrats to the Aggies - official Dr D eats crow thread

I wake up this morning and the aggie rivals page is saying A&M to the SEC is 100% done. While I never said that move was impossible, I said plenty of times around here that it was highly improbable because of how Texas politics had kept Texas and A&M from doing what they wanted to do both last summer and when the SWC blew up.
I didn't think A&M would be able to win the political fight (against the Baylor & Tech contingent) and I was wrong - either they won it or there was no fight to be fought and I was mistaken on either count. It still is a surprise to me so I look forward to the details leaking out over time as to how this happened.
I think being in different leagues and not playing any more is good for both universities. Now that the Baylor & Tech bonds have been loosed, I hope Texas can (in order of my preference):
1. Go to the Big 10 with ND
2. Go to the Pac 16
3. Start the new rumored conference with ND
I can tell you this, if Texas stays in a 9 team Big 12 OR stays in a Big 12 which adds UofH or SMU or some other joke school then I will be absolutely furious with how wildly mismanaged this process has been by the Longhorn brass. Based on things I have heard, contrary to popular opinion, I remain convinced that the Texas President & AD have no interest in being an independent.
Well, Bon Voyage aggies. You are in a good position. No one......from me to most posters to the national talking heads expects you guys to win an SEC championship any time soon so there is a lot to gain without much to lose.

honestly...is this TAMU agreeing to move to the SEC, or is there a deal with the SEC in place?
it seems like a huge gamble on the SEC's part to get 1 extra team without having the 2nd new team lined up already
a. it would be hilarious to watch TAMUdo all of this to get approval to move to the SEC, only to have the SEC go lol wut?
b. if there is a mutual agreement, i assume ESPN/ABC/CBS already has a new deal lined up and the 2nd team is lined up in secret. WHO IS THE 2ND TEAM? WHAT IS THE NEW DEAL?

I believe it when the contracts are signed. Other than that...

I've felt all along that this would happen...but I am curious to see who else the SEC would get.

Who says they wouldn't still play? A la UF and FSU

D... good post.
With that said, the ink isn't dry yet... won't be until 8/22 (announcement), but all reports say its a done deal other than the signature.

I find this all very funny considering we have not heard anything from the SEC in regards to this. Part of me thinks this is A&M trying to force their way in by making this a huge story and blowing smoke up the media's arse

a&m is intentionally leaking this all out to all media types for a reason.

The SEC isn't taking a gamble here in regards to having a 2nd team lined up. Remember slive's recent "I could get to 16 in 15 minutes " comment. He obviously isn't worried about getting other teams to sign up

That comment makes me think that, when things shake out, the SEC will be a 16 team conference in 2013, as will the Pac & Big 10.

The politics of this situation is significantly different. Before there was a viable alternative, but now this is about survival. Previously, I don't think the powers that be thought it was worth the fight, but now it most certainly is.
I think we are evolving away from semi-independent conferences and we are moving to a more NFL type model. The player stipend was just a shot across the bow. Schools will be separated into wheat and chaff. We will rationalize to about 8 conferences (or 4 supers with 2 div ea) and with equal revenue sharing. They may not share across supers, but it will probably be close anyway. TX and ND will not be able to stay independent or they will become irrelevant (champions of the USFL so to speak).
Playoff proponents should be happy, because after this realignment, I think they are coming. The money would stay with the teams that matter instead of forced sharing making it worthwhile. College football will not be the same. Better? Worse? I really don't know.

Still, something within the state of Texas changed. I can't believe that the politicians with Baylor & Tech ties just all of the sudden stopped giving a shite. I am shocked that no on from Baylor or Tech has said anything publicly. This leads me to believe that those entities have been incentivized to be quiet or they have been guaranteed that they have a BCS home in some conference. It will be funny if one or both don't have a BCS conference home when all this is done.

I don't think that the ACC will sit on their hands either. 4 major conferences with 16 teams sounds like a possibility.

you think aTm is trying to scare the big 12 into giving them some Texas sized benefits to stay?
