If Texas is willing to swallow a little bit of pride--not a lot--it would be welcome with open arms into the big ten. Yes losing the LHN would hurt, but the BTN isn't chicken feed.

I would like to see that happen in some ways. Mainly because I loathe ESPN (still watch it and listen to the radio ).

far away...cold...believes in equal sharing...what will stop Ohio State from getting its own network if the Big Ten allows Texas to have its own? Will that be fair to the schools in the conference that don't have their own network? Plus, there is already a Big Ten Network.

I think a lot of people will be surprised with what the Big 10 and Texas cook up.

cook up with respect to the network issues?

or cook up as in an evil plan to move minnesota into the heart of mississippi?

Funny that the commie is arguing that Texas should give up it's lucrative means of production for the greater good of the lesser schools in the conference.

Best scenario mentioned thus far for UT - take football independent & align with a conference for all other sports.
If early returns are any indication, when the LHN craters, football can join a conference.
I know - probably wishful thinking.

What conference are they gonna join in everything else? The ACC?

That really wouldn't be bad. But if being independent isn't good anymore, they better not lock themselves out and get moved somewhere that would hurt them.

I don't see them joining the Big Ten. But they are a member of the AAU obviously, which is basically a requirement to join the Big Ten. I think the Big Ten would certainly welcome them, but they aren't going to be able to push people around. Revenue sharing would be a large sticking point, but the Big Ten does generate a lot of revenue, and adding Texas and another school would exponentially increase that. The other sticking point is the LHN. I highly doubt the Big Ten would let that coexist with the BTN.

So if Texas wants to share revenue equally, and drop the LHN, then it could work. Plus they get the academic ties that they want, and get to play a lot of games in their own time zone (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Purdue, Illinois, Indiana(I think), and Northwestern are all CST).

Who knows what'll happen, but I but they try the independent route first and dump their other sports in a different league.

the ACC, which might not make geographic sense but which does have a media rights setup that would allow for the Longhorn Network in its current form.

there is the answer. UT is headed to the ACC

They would dominate the Sunbelt conference if they did that. BYU is in the West Coast conference for other sports.

I still say the big ten makes the most sense since Texas has said "never" to the SEC.

No LHN and even revenue sharing.

And they wouldn't be able to strong arm anyone in the Big Ten.

From everything I have read in the past, Kirk Bohls is not a Longhorn mouthpiece. (not sure about the other guy). But Bohls has been known to be the "contrarian" voice when compared to the other mouthpieces. IIRC, last year he was spot on with some points of view that the faithful didn't want to hear, but knew to be true.

I am pretty sure UT will take the path of least resistance to any possible BCS bowl game. Run from competition...It's the Longhorn way!

I didn't take that as a slap at the B1G, more as the Whorns don't want any part of the SEC grind.

I didn't see it as a slap at the Big Ten at all. I just don't see what Texas has done to avoid competition?

They want to make money.

They were invited to the SEC. Twice. Turned it down, and the reasons given was they wanted an easier path to the BCS.

Texas played a major role in driving out a quality Nebraska program that presented solid competition to them. Do you remember the last conference championship game they had against Nebraska in '09? Texas barely won that game.

Once Nebraska left, it has made it easier for OU or Texas to win that conference.

How many times did Nebraska win that conference?

Again, it was about money, not competition. If you think Texas is scared to play people they are sadly mistaken. At least IMHO.

Other than Kansas State against OU in 2003, how many times did anyone else left up there do anything recently?

I'm just saying that Bo has Neb well on the way back, and there is not much left of the Big 12 North division without them around anymore. Both Texas and OU like it that way because it has made their path to the BCS easier.
