I'll take that, even with those division names.

BS if it meant no more AU-UGA each year. No way ya'll would say, "oh well, we didn't need that rivalry anyhow".

AU-UGA is SEC football. UA-UT is SEC football. However it is done, these games are a must IMHO.

Reading this thread, it's funny to see Auburn fans talking about sacrifice and how since they sacrificed games 20 years go, UT and Bama should, too.

They gave up their 3rd and 4th biggest rivals, so now people expect Tennessee (and some Bama fans) to give up their biggest rival?

True, some au fans are listing five or six teams they consider rivals. Guess what, when you consider half the conference a rival, it is safe to say you will have to give up some of them.

but lets be honest here. outside of Tuscaloosa and Knoxville, no one else in the country sees this game as a rivalry

This gives each division a 7 state footprint. Might also help us later to bring in an FSU,Clemson, etc. if their are not in the same division. This is what the Big10 did to save rivalries and increase value.
Probably the best idea (and alignment) I have seen/heard yet. Also, didn't the ACC do somewhat the same thing in going to 12 with the Atlantic and Coastal divisions to try to balance it out and maintain some traditional rivalries?

And that's exactly what we did by going to the West, and then giving up Florida later.

Permanents

The rest can draw straws.

Ummm, any chance Auburn can get in that North division? I'll go ahead and buy lifetime seats in the Georgia Dome now.

We'd still line up and play someone on saturday right?

I see your point, and would hate for auburn to lose their game, and for bama to lose its game with UT, but things change...no point in sounding like crochety old men tlaking about days of yore.

so what is it when UGA and LSU play? Sun Belt football?

no rivalry is greater than the conference

No. Bama has to be in the same division as AU and/or UT.

So this is a rivalry: Overall, Alabama leads the series with an official 47–38–7 record. (Bama vs TN)

But this isn't: Auburn holds the advantage in the overall win-loss-tie record in the rivalry series, 42–38–2. (Auburn vs Fla)

Yeah.... big difference.....

For the umpteenth time...its not about how many games you've played, or how close the series is.

Is this really that hard to figure out? We've got multiple Florida posters on here saying its not a rivalry...would we get the same response from bama and Auburn fans to a question about whether we were RIVALS?

Why? Screw Bama and Tenn. I hope they lose their rivalry. I won't lose any sleep over it. Neither will anyone else other than those two fanbases. It'd be fun to make fun of them this year about how we screwed them over when they visit the Plains in November.

we're not rivals.

If a poster says it, it must be true.
