yet somehow Florida/FSU, Georgia/Georgia Tech, Clemson/S. Carolina and Kentucky/Louisville still make it work
Those are different situations where the two rivals have always been in different conferences, except UGA/GT and GT left voluntarily. I can't speak much to the others, but Louisville was probably half the size it is now up until the 70's. Their football team played in the minor league baseball stadium up until the late 90's. It's a much different situation. Being in the same conference has never even been an option.

i'm not sure how much a recruit looks at the conference as much as just the specific
if OU went west right now, you might see 4-5 straight OU-UO title games (much like at the beginning to the SECCG with Bama-florida)
And it is doubtful that Texas and OU would be in separate divisions if they both joined the Pac-10.

I agree that OU would be great for the SEC. I just don't think they want the increase in competition strength.
If OU were in the SEC, they could still schedule Texas every year, just like they did when each were in the Big 8 and SWC.

I agree 100%.

So if it were OU and aTm, OU's schedule would look like:
OOC:
OSU
UT
SEC:
aTm
LSU
Ark
Bama
AU
MSU
Ole Miss
+ at least one team from the SEC east
every year? frick THAT. nobody would willingly sign up for that, regardless of $$$

Well, if A&M and OU were the only teams added, that would more than likely shift AU or another team (Alabama?) to the East. If teams were added to the East, it would still be tough, either way.
IMO, it would be great. I just don't think OU and fans would agree.

I'd like to see auburn go east. Wouldn't want to lose bama on our schedule, Auburn-Georgia is a huge rivalry i think would be good for the east, and the iron bowl could be their east-west rivalry...bama would lose tennessee(?) and pick up oklahoma...i don't think the bammers would have a huge problem with that.
That's also about the only way i would be ok with A&M in the SEC....no OU is a deal breaker. Surely if A&M and mizzou are the only applicants, this won't happen...right?

why not? this isnt about making football even more powerful, its about making money.
aTm brings in a lot of tv sets. Mizzou gives you an opening into 2 large media markets.
actually, those 2 are preferable to OU and FSU joining because they add around the same number of potential viewership without making it significantly harder to win in football.
OU and FSU would compete anually at the highest level of sec competition. aTm would be a higher mid tier team, mizzou a lower mid tier team.

3rd Saturday in October is a big deal...no way Bama willingly drops that off their schedule.
From what was said on ESPNDallas radio Monday, OSU is tethered to OU by rules enacted by the OK state legislature. They are a package deal for whoever wants them.
OU/OSU in the SEC won't happen IMHO.

I don't think Mizzou would add the same amount of viewers as OU. there is already a market in florida so you're right...it wouldn't add many viewers there. And if more money means turning the SEC into the big 12, it doesn't sound that good to me.

I'd rather not have Missouri. IMO, it makes more sense that we add nobody unless we really need to do so. If/when we do, they need to be beneficial to the SEC. Otherwise, we'll just be in the "heppin' bidness".

aTm = OU
mizzou = FSU. not in stature, obviously, but mizzou would give us 2 new markets, where as FSU brings zero new markets.

how would adding depth to our mid tier teams turn us into the big 12?
for the folks wanting to add OU, UT, FSU, etc... you realize that you are just making it THAT much harder to win in the toughest conference in the world, right? without a playoff it would provide ZERO benefit to LSU.
i want whats best for LSU. so give me 2 mid tier teams that bring in more money, but dont threaten our place at the top of the sec west.

Thank you. People want all these TOUGH schools. Good luck with keeping up with a Top 5-10 ranking. Also add in players getting injured more because of the tough competition against NFL caliber players EVERY week.
ETA: Why do people think schools like OU or Texas aren't itching to get into the SEC, I mean it is the best conference right. It's more fun to beat up on the Baylor's, KU's, K-State, Mizzou, Iowa St, etc and move up in the rankings and people think you're a powerhouse, get to go to a BCS bowl=more money. Texas and OU are smart.
People talkin about we should get FSU, GT, Clemson, VT, etc. Yeah make your schedule tougher.lol. You better hope for a Mizzou over FSU, which in turns give you a easier win.
