For realz this time?
Yup. Yesterday was SEC cleansing themselves of any wrongdoing.
Now that A&M is free, it becomes "Okay, since you like us, we'll give you an invitation"
Or something like that.

I actually like the idea of Gay and M coming to the SEC.

loftin comments per live blog on kbtx website;
quote:
4:24
KBTX: Loftin: "Howdy."
4:24
KBTX: "It's not what wrong with the B12 as much as what's right for TAMU."
4:25
KBTX: Looking at it as a positive thing...greater visibility.
4:26
KBTX: Spoke to Slive at the Cotton Bowl...then again July 21 after board mtg.
4:26
KBTX: Off and on convos with Slive the last few weeks.
quote:
KBTX: Today's mtg means one thing: I am authorized to take actions. Asked if there was a timeline: "Not for me."
quote:
4:28
KBTX: B12 went through a major upheaval last year...gone through another one recently.
4:29
KBTX: Deflects question on whether he'd accept an invite from SEC.
quote:
4:30
KBTX: Said he didn't expect anything to come from yesterday's SEC mtg. "Their press release speaks for itself."

Asked if the goal for A&M is to be a part of the SEC: "I can't say that."

KBTX: Loftin has talked with coaches, got input...told them it's a lengthy process.
4:34
KBTX: If A&M negotiates an exit, ability to continue a UT rivalry game on Thanksgiving would be a big part of the discussions.

How long until the next step? Whatever that might be?

So now the order is this, right?:
- secure back room deal to bring in # 14
- formally invite TAMU
- wait for number 14 to express their interest as to not do anything illegal
- formally invite number 14.

Texas Tech - soon to be member of the Mountain West conference. They are screwed.

Scona just said Tamu might have to pay 30million to get out of the big 9

They can probably negotiate it down to 1/3 of that a la Nebraska and Colorado.

I'd think they could negotiate it down that much, if not even more.
Dan Beebe really put his foot in his mouth, IMHO, by downplaying the effects of A&M leaving the conference.

Andy Staples tweet

So Mark Emmert has called the people involved in the realignment? He could try to stop them, but that's a pretty fat antitrust suit.
