Oklahoma has a national following as well as the whole state of Oklahoma. Every game they play against the top schools of the SEC will be a major match-up getting massive ratings. In other words, Oklahoma will bring a lot of cash to the TV deal.

Ditto with Tech leaving UVA behind.

They were in seperate conferences not too long ago. That's not a deal breaker.

Won't happen...just too many big games in a season for Big Game Bob Stoops. He just wants to play 1 or 2 big games a year and then if he beats Texas and OSU, he has a good shot at the BCS. That would never happen in the SEC.

That's because I don't think there has ever been a satisfactory explanation. First, consider OU/OSU. The reason why they are a package deal is, in the eloquent words of another poster, that T. Boone doesn't want to be known for having paid for the best damn facilities in the MWC. However, if for some insane reason the SEC invited OSU without OU, I would be shocked if they didn't jump at it.

Similarly with VT/VA. Those two got connected when it looked like the BE was going to collapse and VT initially was on the outside looking in since Syracuse was the preferred choice. (Question? Did VA advocate VT before or after Warner pressured them). When Boeheim resisted, VT got elevated thru the pressure of Warner and the advocacy of VA.

It seems to me that the only thing bringing them together and keeping them together is if one or the other were threatened by the other leaving the ACC. Is VT that big a threat to the solvancy/health of the ACC? Couldn't they be replaced by Pittsburg and the ACC have similar results? I could see VT and FSU leaving harming the ACC, but not just VT.

It seems to me if VT bolting soesn't harm the ACC, then VA would be happy to say don't let the door hit you in the arse. I'm more of the mindset that if they don't come then it's because they don't want to because they don't think they fit. Maybe they want to be in a football oriented conference, but they would be on the farthest edge of the SEC.

politics. the same politics that kept baylor in and tcu out of the newly formed big XII. the bolting of OU from the big whatever its called now would signal the end of that conference, and with it, a very shaky future for OSU athletics. no decent politician is going to allow this to happen.

it does, if that is the opening shot of a potential raid on ACC teams by other conferences scrambling to survive. if 16 teams is where we are headed, there probably is not room for both the ACC and Big East. if the ACC loses one of its premier football programs... which would probably be accompanied by FSU or Clemson, the ACC is on life support.
with that being said, by assertion from the ou/osu case stands true here. politicians are not going to allow one of the great public schools of this country fall into conference limbo.

then VA would be happy to say don't let the door hit you in the arse

this is just fricking naive. UVA and her alumnus stood up and pulled strings to get VT into the acc, they certainly wouldnt be HAPPY to let VT leave. good lord that is a silly notion.

The ACC never saw VT being this "successful" lol and losing them would crush the conference.

If you position is that VT leaving hurts, then I can accept that. If your position is the bond between the schools is so strong that a move that would substantially benefit one without hurting the other in the least would be turned down, then who is being naive.

Swap Mizzou for either OU or OSU, either one I don't care.
1) there are one to many Tigers in the SEC already so adding a third is not cool. Unless they change their name.

2) The map looks better. This version has a hole in it where Oklahoma is.

I'm good with NCState and VT

if we assume i am wrong that VT leaving hurts, you still have the problem of how VT got to the ACC in the first place. i am saying there would be far too much political pressure on VT to stay, and not leave UVA with egg on their face.

that being said, VT leaving the acc hurts the acc deeply.

Hit the nail right on the head its more than just hurting the conference if they leave its the way they got into the ACC after suing them that's makes it almost impossible for them to just leave

Didn't they beat your arse in cs last year?

They also beat Arkansas and Ole Miss the last time they played them. So we know Mizzou can already beat Arkansas, Ole Miss and A&M
