9 Game Conference Schedule - Neutral Game Option
Posted on 10/11/11 at 10:05 am

A big argument against a 9 game conference schedule has been the disparity and home and away games within the conference because it would be unfair for some to play 4 and others 5. What if it was mandated that the 9th conference game for every team was played at a neutral site, which would give every team 4 home, 4 away, and 1 neutral? Would that be a fair option? Georgia and Florida already do it, so that is one already out of the way.

I wouldn't mind seeing LSU-TAMU played at Jerry's World more often.

Fsck that. We already have 1 game there a season against Arky. We don't want to turn Jerryworld into War Memorial South.

God no. Sterile, arse ugly venue. Ticket prices are ridiculous, and it's in Arlington, not Dallas. Have any of you been to Arlington?
There is no need for neutral sites. You get 4 of 9 conference games at home one year and 5 of 9 the next. It balances out.
If you absolutely must play A&M/LSU at a neutral sight, play it at Reliant in Houston. It's closer to both schools, in a really cool part of town, and much more attractive than Jerryworld/"The Death Star."

Although a decent option, the answer is NO... There are not enough sites..
UGA-UF are taken care of and Arkie and TAMU...
So are Auburn and LSU going to play a neutral site game in Jackson, Shreveport, Lezion Field(Mecedes Superdome is not neutral).

It's funny how one's perception of a place is molded by one's experience there...i.e. record. As an LSU fan, I love it.

Arky can go to a neutral site game at STL against Mizzou while LSU plays TAMU in Dallas.
UT-Vandy at Titans' stadium Nashville
OM-MSU in Memphis (Jackson's stadium is a dump)
UF-UGA stays same
Bama-AU in Birmingham (wait for the crying)
USC-UK in Charlotte

If the SEC moves to 9 games, they ought to look at instead moving the SEC Title game from a neutral site (Atlanta) to the home stadium of the division champ with the highest BCS ranking. Similar to the PAC12, who uses best conference record. I figured using the BCS ranking would give the SEC the best chance to have a team in the BCS Title game (more $$$). That way there are no neutral site games at all.

What if it was mandated that the 9th conference game for every team was played at a neutral site, which would give every team 4 home, 4 away, and 1 neutral?
But the another issue with 9 conference games is that is takes away from an OOC game, which is usually a home game and brings in a lot of money to the school and the city.
Further, OOC games are usually wins...a 9th conference game means a guaranteed loss for half the teams...
I believe 8 games is the only way to go.

Conference games have historically been a huge deal at neutral sites and tend to be an EXTREMELY unfair advantage for the teams that have them. I would be in favor for it because having to deal with OU/tu doing it shows how obnoxious they can be.
Not sure of what I mean? A&M had to play a game in Austin or Norman every single year, OU/tu only had to deal with playing at Kyle Field every other, as the schedule makers decided that those were the three power houses in the South, and they should balance.
Mathematically, if you have 3 identical teams, with three identical records against each other, but two of those teams play at a neutral site, the neutral site teams will have astronomically higher chance of going undefeated against the two. I argued this endlessly with a Sooner once, then showed him the math, and he shut up. I can do that for y'all if you want.
But as far as recent history(I'm reciting this from memory, bare with me), in the 5 years from 2000-2004, OU beat tu, they went to 3 BCS Title games. tu was undefeated at home during that time frame, was a 10+ win team, and OU has a losing record on the road against ranked opponents.
So the thinking would be, in that 5 year period, OU definitely wouldn't have won 3 in Austin if it was a neutral site.
Better yet, over the course of the next 5, tu won 4 of which I believe, the numbers switch. OU only lost 1 game in Norman, tu was terrible on the road against ranked opponents, and goes to 2 National Title games.

I have been to Jerry world twice, once for a college game and once for a pro game and will never go back. The worst stadium for actually watching a game.

I am stealing this from a texags.com poster. It's his rant about Jerryworld, and it made me LOL.
--------------------------------
I'll go ahead and say it, cowboys stadium is one of the worst places to watch a live sporting event period. Its for people who dont give a crap about the game on the field and care more about being noticed or distracted by shiny things.
Its the equivalent of dangling keys in front of a baby. If you really care about watching a game(of any kind) there are far better places to do it than the deathstar.
I want to go to a football game to watch football. I dont give a crap about
1. Artwork diplayed in the place
2. expensive finishes
3. gimicky entrances(player walk out through a bar)
4. sub field level suites
5. a ridiculous scoreboard that detracts from the play on the field.
Face it, cowboys stadium is basically a physical representation of the movie Idiocracy. Im just waiting for them to start serving brawndo

More than Tiger Stadium and its atmosphere?
I know where I'd rather be and its home, sweet, home Kyle Field. Everything just feels right in your home stadium.

Personally I think it is a really cool thing, but I honestly hope that a magic about the Arkansas/A&M game develops where there is some sort of relevance for it. If people know it has national implications, know that the city is about to be invaded by Ags and Pigs, I think that can be a powerful thing.
I hope the Jerry World game stays forever just so kids can grow up thinking, "A&M Arky is next weekend". Growing up in Dallas, I know how huge that can be with the RRS, and I would like some of that magic.
The SEC in Dallas. A&M/Arky. Wouldn't you like feeling that your football game was the center of attention of one Saturday for a metroplex with 7 million football crazed people? Because OU/tu will tell you how it feels if you're curious.

No, but it's a closer drive for many LSU fans and grads who now live in TX or other areas.
A lot of Ags keep ripping Jerry's World, but let's be honest, you haven't exactly done well there. Most LSU fans I know loved playing their twice in the last year, but we won big there and that definitely has something to do with it. My point is - our opinion of the place is skewed by our experience there.
I've been to three games there, had great seats each time, and saw my Tigers win twice. Therefore, I loved it. Again, I recognize I'm a bit biased. Ags should admit the same.

Of course. ESPN and the National media loves to rip our record against SEC teams in the last 7 games, and 4 of the games were there. If you take the games before that where we played an SEC team(LSU). We absolutely butt fricked y'all like we are about to start doing again, and a lot of that had to do with Kyle Field.

I'm not sure why the west couldn't just play one less east opponent and keep it at 8. Makes a lot more sense.

Not to mention that OCC games give SEC teams a chance to regroup and get a little healthy. As we all know, conference games cause a lot of "walking wounded".
At some point, SEC teams will lose their cross division permanent team. When, not if, the conference expands to 16, you'll play 8 conference games and they'll be in your division...period.

It appears the authorities haven't been able to get rid of that meth problem in College Station...that's a shame. I've heard the stuff does terrible things to the mind; this post proves it.
Good luck with rehab!
