You just gotta love Jimmy Sexton

He knows how to play money hard ball. He negotiates a deal with Alabama for who knows how much more money, perks, control, etc. He delivers it to Nick before the Auburn game but tells Nick not to sign it. The deal is the safety net for his client just in the then unlikely event that Alabama loses. If Bama then goes on to win another NC, he can come back with that unsigned contract and negotiate another one that gives more goodies for Nick.
Clever.
Then the unthinkable happens and Auburn wins. But not so fast my friend. Texas gets blown up by Baylor. Jimmy tells Nick to keep that contract in his desk drawer for a bit while he stirs up the Texas pot. It's win/win for Jimmy and Nick.
If Texas comes up with a way better deal, Nicky packs his bags. Even if they don't Jimmy can leverage Bama for more.
Damn! I love financial hard ball.
Even if Nick does sign that Bama deal, he has been known to walk out on a contract before. As I understand it there aren't any penalty clauses if he does.

This whole circus is not good for college football.
With a bidding war you create an even more bifurcated system. It will driver a deeper wedge between schools and sports programs and an even deeper wedge between players and coaches.
Look at what has happened to major league baseball. They have made it difficult for a family of 4 to take the kids to a game. They have out priced their audience. Nascar is dying on the vine.
We are treading in dangerous waters here. As a Bama fan, I agree that Saban is worth every penny that the University can pay, but where does this all end?

There doesn't appear to be any end in sight.
I guess when the pool of rich boosters begins to dry up. As long as there are rich people that are willing to pony up big bucks for strutting and bragging rights, it will continue.
If the money is out there why shouldn't the coaches and their agents suck it up?

No offense, but really how difficult is Sexton's job here. His client is in high demand by two schools who are both willing to pay top dollar for his client's services. Saban holds ALL the leverage in these negotiations. Alabama is desperate not to give up what they have, and Texas is desparate to get to where Alabama is. All Sexton has to do is keep running the price up until one of the schools says "no mas". This is probably the easiest contract negotiations he'll ever have. He's essentially an auctioneer between two multi-millionares. Hell, you or I could get Saban a giant contract.
The guy who is a great agent is the one who scares a school into giving a coach a lucrative multi-year deal after only one year of success.
