Advantages of going to Michigan

(1) He would not have to play the monster schedule we play every year ( especially next year ).
(2) He would perhaps be leaving an university which is sinking financially.
(3) He would be going back to his alma mater.

Disadvantages
(1) Michigan needs program rebuild. Is Miles a builder of a program at the level Michigan wants to be. He maintained a built program.
(2) He has to win immediately. A few bad seasons will not be tolerated.
(3) He has to completely alter the offensive philosophy from RR. And we know how great a mind Miles is on offense.

For LSU:

This would be a disaster. Considering the severity of our finances right now...we will not be able to shell out a whole lot. That can break the program.

This is stupid.

Leaving the south to go to the rust belt? Sure.

We pay a coach nearly 4 mill

If we don't have to pay that 4 mill, we have the money to dish out for a good coach. But Miles isn't going and it's not because he wouldn't, its because no way Michigan offers.

these 2 combined dont make sense. unless they hire another spread guy, its going to take time to turn it around. i would assume they want to go back to the pro-style meeechigan has always run, but we'll see

advantage for meeechigan with miles:
(1) miles will beat ohio st. not every year, but he will hang. no more of this 8 losses in a row stuff. you know the michigan faithful are humiliated they cant even play on the same field with tOSU. miles was 2-2 vs bobby stoops while at oklahoma st(havent won vs OU since he left), 3-3 vs urban meyer, 2-2 vs nick saban. for being a complete idiot, there are coaches who would sell their soul for a win/loss record like that against elite coaches
(2) miles can recruit. he can turn their program around by getting solid recruiting classes and raising the talent, hopefully, specifically on defense.

There is not that much talent in Michigan and he has to share it with Michigan State.

Miles himself was all state from OHIO. See? He was recruited out of Ohio, to Michigan. That's necessary for Miles or any coach.

MIchigan roster under Miles or Harbaugh
1. Ohio guys
2. Western PA guys
3. North Jersey guys
4. a smattering of 4 and 5 star national recruits.
5. some MIchigan guys

The LSU athletic department is sound financially, especially the football program.

Not like here where anything less than a nationsl championship has the fans in a snit?

The rest of your little exercise in slamming Miles isn't worthy of comment. I understand that you don't like Miles but inventing foolishness like this is just silly. And what is worse, you know it.

1. How much money would this phantom good coach of yours demand? Didn't LSU's experience of going cheap with Hallman and DiNardo teach you anything?

2. Who is this imaginary cheap good coach?

The athletic program supports itself. I am not sure what this has to do with the football program.

If Les leaves we save money we don't lose it. We paid almost 4 million a year for no West Titles the last 3 years. We can pay less for the same results if we want to. If Les leaves he or Michigan are gonna owe us some money. LSU won't owe Les anything if he quits. LSU will finally be out of that monster contract.

Miles and Saban both came in with very little fan fare. They were far from big hires. They both may have been respected as coaches, but were not big names at the time. Saban was a little bigger, but not in our part of the country. First you are going to be rid of Les's monster contract as far as length. You can pay up to 4 million a year if you find the right person. If you go with a lesser up and coming coach like Miles was you can probably pay in the 2-3 million range. 2-4 million a year ain't peanuts and is not going cheap. LSU should be able to find a good coach for that.

first off, when LSU hired saban in 2000, we made him the 3rd highest paid coach in the country at $1.3M- a huge number at the time.

as far as potential next head coaching salary, i think we did it right with miles when he got here. starts off in the $1.8-2.0M range, and you get a bump when you bring in hardware. we have the track record of paying huge for huge results. come in and earn it, we reward accordingly.

If Les leaves...we will be fine. I have no doubt that we could bring in a great coach....
Chuckie, Urban, Tubby, Mullens, Patterson.

To what end? The LSU athletic program isn't in financial trouble.
I am assuming that you are a season ticket holder and a big TAF contributor since money sems to be a problem with you. Is the amount of the contract what sticks in your craw? Precisely how much do you think that LSU should have to pay for a new coach? How cheap do you want to go?
How does the size of Les Miles' contract effect you personally? Do you believe that ticket prices would go down if this new coach were paid 1/2 of the amount that Miles is getting? By how much? Half?
