Were they? Chavez was an elite DC for a few years. LSU fans get blinded by the end but the first couple years he was here, he was in the conversation for best Defensive Coordinator.

And yeah he lost some games (if you really wanna put it on him for holding offenses to 13 points and then giving up a late final drive, whatevs) but who hasn’t?

Arguably had some of the best defenses the SEC has ever seen at Tennessee in the late 90’s.
