Texas. he has a lot of texas connections/roots.

reading the guy who follow's the card's state he wanted to recruit texas as he did in tulsa for the cards, tells me Krag is comfortable with recruiting texas.

he's coached in texas at north texas and atm. played at west texas. recruited texas while at tulsa.

i think this is a big part of why les likes Krag. Krag also fit's miles philosophy. He's coached drop back passers and run a pro style O. He's coached qb's and played qb.

he may not be the sexy pick but he seems to be the right "fit" for miles.

I thought about this as well. OC doesn't do a ton of hands-on recruiting usually but he would know the territory. Someone suggested that Fuente, for example, mostly recruited very north Texas and Oklahoma.

they do depending on the coach. Jimbo did a ton; Crowton none. Muschamp was a huge recruiter; Pelini/Chavis not so much.

Would like to know more ab Krags as a recruiter in TX b/c there's not much pointing to how effective he is. LSU has 2 dynamic recruiters on staff in Wilson and Gonzo, 2 solid guys in Cooper and Haley, then scrubs. Kragthorpe is close to 50, I'm not ready to pencil him in as a big recruiter just yet

I have a buddy in Tulsa (HS coach) that knows Kragthorpe pretty well, in fact he considers him a friend...I am waiting to hear back in an email some scoop on him.

Just looking at Tulsa's 2003-2006 committment lists, he at least had his staff recruit Texas (as you might expect being so close):

-2003: 9 (Texas recruits)
-2004: 10
-2005: 9
-2006: 7

But then further away at Louisiville from 2007-2009:
-2007: 0
-2008: 2
-2009: 1

Yep, that fits. I distinctly remember when Krags was hired at UL that he said he considered Texas a fertile recruiting ground for the Cards. Turns out Texas kids just didn't want to go so far from home. From what I saw and heard, he never worked Florida that hard, and by the time he figured out he needed to do so, it was too late.

That's one reason Strong has been able to recruit so well. Florida has always been good for UL (for some kids, it's just far enough away to be different, but close enough to being southern that it feels familiar) and since Strong already had great contacts in the state, the recruiting has really taken off. They are currently ranked in or near the top 25 by most recruiting services, with what will probably turn out to be their best class ever.
