My opinion is that if he interviews, he is gone. If he wanted to stay at LSU and has no desire to go to Michigan, he wouldn't take the interview.

I guess he could just be throwing his boys in Michigan a bone, but I don't see it that way.

Why I think he stays:

1. Miles has said, more than once, that the SEC is the best conference out there. Why would he leave that?

2. He has so many young players with so much talent

3. Its a poker move to not just come out and say he's not leaving. It makes sense to me.

Well at least I hope he stays with us....

The only thing that bothers me is that Les isn't saying I'm not interested, if offered I will not accept. He is not killing the speculation himself and he is the only one who can really do it.

This. He's a business man doing business. Alleva says "we'll do whatever it takes to keep him", Miles isn't gonna say "That's OK Joe, I'm here as long as you'll have me"...without seeing what "whatever it takes" means.

My friend on the team said he's pretty sure Miles is leaving. Some of the players are upset because they really thought he would stay. At least that's what he told me, but I don't know what to believe at this point.

I being a Michigan fan am probably not seeing it without maize colored glasses but why wouldn't he go.
I understand that LSU is a better situation for nearly every coach out there right this moment with a much better climate, recruiting base and recent success.

You also have to factor in that Miles has probably wanted to be the head coach at michigan for say 15 years perhaps longer and that this is his final chance at it. If we hire someone else they will be there for 3-4 years minimum and probably longer making him into his 60s and thus not a viable option. If he wants to make his dream of coaching his alma mater come true it has to be now. I expect him to accept the job and end up his career at michigan.

I wish you guys nothing but the best and feel sort of bad about taking Miles at this point in the year, but you have to understand that for him its now or never and consider what you would do.

I would imagine that Bass told Miles whatever you do, don't make a definitive statement either way. If you interview with UM and then stay at LSU you may 1. finally be appreciated by some of the fans. 2. get offered a raise 3.get offered a shite pile of money by a desperate UM and decide to go home.

You've never had a dream job have you? If the opportunity comes or comes twice you don't pass it up.

It's his alma mater and his dream job

This is what makes me wonder, his hero Bo Schembechler is from Ohio, played at Miami(OH), was assistant coch at Ohio St TWICE, head coach at Miami(OH), then Michigan Head coach.

Does the alma mater and heritage hold that much bearing?

Why would he want to end his legacy to follow in someone elses' footsteps?

Even if he does GREAT at michigan, he will ALWAYS be second best at michigan.

While at LSU could be the "Bo Schembechler" of LSU the one people will talk about for years and have a statue made in his honor (IDK). And 10 or 20 years one of his former players could be a coach somewhere and give "Very Les Miles Like" pregames speeches.

I think most of the team would support Miles in leaving but be sad to see him leave. He's always encouraged them to do whats best for themselves.. they're people first and athletes second.

I did not until I saw the post game question and response. He's gone. Good for him.

My friend didn't imply that they were mad, but that they really wanted him to stay.

My assumption? Sounds like he will listen, and hasn't ruled out the possibility. They are not getting Harbaugh.

I know he was dissappointed he did not get the extensions the last 2 years. I believe he and his family like it here and he wants to stay. I don't think it is about more money. I am hoping he is only using this as an opportunity to get the extension he wants.

Let's use a commissioned sales rep perspective: you've worked hard, set up a nice, long line of upcoming projects and your reward the next couple of years is to cash in. If you leave for a company you always wantede to work for, you know that there is a ton of work ahead of you... the clients aren't buying... and you're likely to get your teeth kicked in for a few years.

Are you willing to give up all the hard work you've done to get to this point just for the 'pleasure' of working at your 'dream company' and having to do all the hard work all over again?

Why would you? Why would he?
