Pool of available coaches is not that big. After you filter out contracts.

Because sane, rational people see what he has done in 6 years and know he's a damn good coach and recruiter.
Only LSU fans (and opposing SEC fans) think he is subpar. At least the LSU fans get to enjoy 11 wins while being proven wrong. 2010 must have been hard on the Bama or Gator fan who watched his beloved coach/team lose to this rube.

Right now Michigan does not have personnel on defense and I think Miles would do the best job rebuilding the talent in the next couple of years.

62 wins in 6 yrs, kept LSU together in post-Katrina season, a BCS title, four 11+ win seasons out of 6 in the SEC, has displayed the ethics to dismiss Perilloux when it would risk his job security (and has since returned to 11 wins this yr), Mich alum, has shown he is capable of beating Tressel & Ohio St,...
anything else? I think that is a pretty good list to start with

1) Michigan Man
2) Highly successful in the best conference in the country
3) Great recruiter (Michigan is in recruiting hell right now)
4) Prefers a pro-style system
It's obvious why he's their top choice.

He has succeeded everywhere he has gone. I mean shite dude, Oky state had 3 straight losing season when he came in and brought them to 3 bowl games in 4 years and and 2 oklahoma victories

They are desperate and, once Harbough committed to the Niners, there were no atractive alternatives.

This is not true. Sure people were upset about that game, but most fans can see how well Miles has done at LSU and how well he recruits. He is one of the best in the country at making recruits feel like family.

They'd prefer a Schembechler Michigan man, which cuts it down even further.
