under contract extension negotiations. Mum is the word.
If there is no chance of him leaving, why would mum be the word. Seems pretty simple. "We are working out the details of a new contract extension and I will not be taking a position at any other school." Since when is privacy in an extension necessary?

and why is it taking so long if they're on the same page? Is he asking for something they're not willing to come up with? The longer this drags on, the more likely there's some fire to go with the smoke.

There were some interesting internet rumors swirling on some UT boards last night. Supposedly Bama presented an offer to Saban but made most of the increase incentive based. One off their mods claimed that pissed Saban off. Gonna be a fun next few days.

Saban has a contract. UT is not University of Mars. /thread

And upstage the day's games? That would be so Steinbrenner.

actually the texas boards i've been reading don't say anything about saban, they've pretty much moved on... and for the most part, the fans don't want saban

I detect sarcasm.

Read a lot of Texas message boards? That's kind of amusing.

I don't believe it, but if it's message board dribble, then that doesn't represent the fan base.
anyone with their thinking cap on, understands that UT is swinging for the fences with Saban...
It may or not happen, but I can tell you that Saban is #1 on the list of the boosters writing the checks and they aren't going to be told no easily..
David Shaw is said to be the 2nd choice... but Saban is the man they want for the job...they know they would be getting immediate and guaranteed results with him being their HC.
Saban is the best in the business, that's not really even up for debate.
Now if we want to talk age concerns then that's another deal...62 is pretty young...
the legends coach well into their 70's

UT can easily double what any other institution can offer - whether they want to is another question.
Posted on 12/8/13 at 1:32 pm to ffhouston
My theory, Saban is slow playing Bama while the UT factions battle it out over whether Mack stays or goes.
Posted on 12/8/13 at 1:40 pm to Jim Rockford
My theory: Saban retiring from coaching and going to work as an ESPN analyst.
Posted on 12/8/13 at 1:53 pm to Jim Rockford
Mack is gone. That is not he question. Chances are the next coach is hired but they need to go through an interview process that includes a minority coach or they get dinged. They will interview a minority and talk to other candidates before announcing. The type of coach they hire will not have to interview. Institutional control and budgets for asst coaches and salary will all be done through his agent.
