Why Assume Muschamp Returns to the Coordinator Ranks?

He's got nothing to prove a defensive coordinator. Everyone knows he can coach a defense. It's his skills as a head coach that are in question.
Why not take the head coaching gig at a smaller school with less pressure rather than risk a few bad defensive years and being permanently buried?
Sorry, Champ as a DC at an SEC school just doesn't make sense to me.

I agree, I think he either takes a job at a big 12 or acc school as a head coach this year or sits out until next year to see what opens.

Because if he comes to USC he'll get the chance to be a HC at an SEC school in 3 years without having to go a small school and move twice

Do you not understand how Aggie World works? They are going to open the bank to Will. Like Kiffin, he'll get solid 7 figure check, be toast of the town in College Station (in most powerful political state in country, i.e.,lots of favor and perks), he'll not have to deal with pressure of being H.C., he gives up 380 yards and 24 points a game and he's still a genius... compared to what's been in Aggie Land. Kiffin will stay at Bama and Muschamp will also get to stick it to the UT Arrogant Teasips on the recruiting trail and on the scoreboard without ever having to play a down.

If I was Muschamp, I would take this year off to reflect and plan. I'm sure he's been doing nothing but coaching since was 22 years old. He's not had a whole lot of time to step back and assess his situation.
This is an ideal opportunity to do that.
Take some time off, hang out with the family, go visit Saban, Belichik, Miles, Payton, etc. Sit down and pick their brains. Work the camps and conferences this year. Make connections. Do the legwork, and when the coaching change cycle starts up next year, he'll be in a better spot to take advantage of any opportunity that comes his way.
And he'll be well rested and recharged.
That's what I would do.
And hookers.

Well, Kiffin had no intention of coaching this year. He just came as a favor to Nick Saban. He didn't know it was a tryout until Saban offered him the job.
If Saban hadn't offered him, I doubt he's coaching anywhere this year.

You take a small school HC position and don't win then you are done as a HC.
