Pretty salty and strong list but LSU does not need 2 DB coaches as you list them. If Walker is the DB coach then what do you need Raymond for?

Raymond is a G.A. getting a promotion, but Walker will oversee.
This comes from whispers from B.O.S.

Yeah I know Corey is an Asst Strength Coach and I don't mind guys getting their chance but he would have to have a TON of potential to do that. Most DC's now a days are a position coach at one specific spot so thats why I don't see how Corey could get it, unless they freed up some extra money to give him because you would basically be creating an extra coaching spot on the staff if you go by this year's staff numbers. I'm not saying it can't be done or they won't or anything, I wouldn't object to it if they did do it, I'm just saying it would be an extra spot because you only have 3 coaches on the Defensive side of the ball this year. But again now that I think about it, it could happen because last year Pelini coached LB's along with Peveto and Lane the DLine and Mal the DB's. Sorry it's the early AM

Hey Rosco I have even a better idea for that staff of Defensive coaches you mentioned. How about Walker and Orgeron as Co Defensive Coordinators?!!!
I know the LSU faithful would love that idea.

He does have a ton of potential. They can't free up money just like that, they'll have to get rid of a guy to make room for Raymond. That means Robinson is gone to pasture if Raymond comes aboard.

I think LSU keeps Robinson for ST - IMO they were much better this past year with him.
Which means the new DC is going to have to coach a position.

I'd like to see our d-coordinator not have to coach a position and give the special teams duties to one of the offensive coaches. Let Porter or McCarthy handle that.
If it means getting rid of Robinson, so be it. You hate to let a guy go after one season who hasn't really shown any underperformance, but oh well.

We have:
Crowton
Mallory
Peveto
Lane
Studrawa
Henson
McCarthy
Porter
Robinson
If we add:
Walker
Willis
Orgeron
Raymond
..then 4 will have to leave. Mallory is supposedly gone to NM, Peveto likely gone to Northwestern, Lane back to Florida (covers Walker, Willis, and Orgeron hirings). In order for Raymond to fit, another will have to leave..that someone is likely Robinson.
I say that because all the guys mentioned above are defensive guys, so someone associated with defense (Robinson helps with defense)...or at least not associated with offense...will have to leave in order to keep the balance we'd want.

I read that if Orgeron came he would be DL coach, Asst RC, and ST coach.

corey did play c.b. in the n.f.l. and willis coached some pretty good lb's at Auburn.
Salty coaching and recruiting staff.
You have walker and O who coached in the n.f.l., raymond who has played at the n.f.l. level as c.b. and willis who has coached a number of lbs to the n.f.l.

Willis played a while in the NFL too and was All SEC at LB at Auburn

even makes the resume that much more solid. It should not be hard to recruit or coach a kid when everyone on your defensive staff has coached or played in the n.f.l and college.
The best part of this "hypothetical" staff is they are young. It's not like you are bringing in a older guy who may not have the energy to recruit or have one foot out the door looking at retirment.

I don't think raymond will be a position coach at this level yet. that would be a huge risk considering he's not coached a position at this level. unless he was the kirby smart for nick saban type

But you are bringing in a DC who very clearly has HC aspirations and could be gone the next year.
All in all, I don't think this happens, I think Walker will likely stay put at UCLA if he doesn't get one of the jobs that are still out there. Not rain on anyone's parade since I've been wanting the guy since it was even speculated that Bo would leave, just how I see it. Hope I'm wrong.
Another thing, I think Chizik should keep Willis.

dude, our special teams are awful. with the exception of Colt, who has been fantastic for years now, they outright suck. theres no reason in the world why the army of four and five star athletes we put on the field for kickoffs and punts shouldnt be in the top 10 in every category. the reality is we're not not even top 30 in any category. one TD all year on kickoffs and punts, with the fastest man in college football and a brilliant open field runner fielding kicks, is simply not good enough.
