Who was the person who said Jay Johnson would be the baseball coach early in the search?

Nobody believed him but he was right. Wonder if he has any insights to who the next football coach is?

It was me. I remember I said, "You know who's going to be your new baseball coach? That Jay Johnson guy. That's your new baseball coach right there."

Yeah, I wonder if he just knew early that Woodward was very interested. Or simply knew what kind of traits Woody was looking for and being in baseball long enough on the West coast either knew JJ personally or his reputation in baseball circles that he would murder the interview and impress Scott so much, he’d have to hire him.
Which is why I don’t think there’s any such handshake deal in place unless it’s with somebody who’s not currently coaching like Petersen or Stoops. I think Woody is smart enough to know that with there not being a home run that’s actually attainable, he can’t just hire off resume or name recognition. He’s going to want to personally sit down across from these guys, look into their eyes, and size them up. I think he’s more open to guys than most fans think, and the actual sit-down interviews are going to weigh heavily. Besides previous success, he’s going to want somebody that has a very clear vision of what the LSU program can become and a precise plan on how to realize that vision. How he plans to attack each day, what he’ll be looking for in assistants, how he’ll use NIL and the transfer portal to his advantage, his recruiting strategy, etc….
Instead of hiring just a name that absolves him of any non-success (“hey, I hired Jimbo Fisher, it’s not my fault he didn’t win more.”), he’ll be willing to take a risk on a guy who has a vision for the program, a plan to make it happen, and the ability to genuinely communicate and sell it, as long as the candidate possesses the qualities that Woody thinks will translate to all that manifesting itself. Basically, the interviews will carry a ton more weight than we’ll ever know, and if it’s a guy like Napier or Tucker or whoever that may not move the fan base’s needle, it will be because of how they interviewed, not necessarily that he whiffed on his top 5-6 or whatever. I think he’s more open than he’s been given credit for.

It’s Ryan Day or Matt Campbell. Book it.

I said it will be Johnson
I also said Canes will never make it
And anything more than a handful it too much
So there’s that
