I honestly think Smart gets the Bama job to preserve the continuity already in place and attempt to retain the recruits that are already committed.
Smart will be the chosen one to fall on the grenade.
That said, I still think (for some odd reason) that Saban stays at Bama.

I would imagine that Kirby Smart would be offered the Alabama job as soon as Nick Saban left (if he decides to leave, that is). I have always seen him as a guy that will stay on staff at Alabama under Nick Saban until either the Georgia or Alabama job opened up. And now might just be that time for him...

I think he's ready to be a HC...if not Bama, somewhere else then. Just my opinion. I'm sure some assistant coaches would follow him to UT, but I don't know enough about his current assitants to gauge whether or not they would.

Smart makes the most sense to be Bama's HC for a number of reasons. I think that Battle likely knows over the next three seasons, whomever follows in Saban's footsteps is likely to have a rough go of it.

I agree. I've seen it said that the reason Hootie and Cam are going to Bama is 100% because of Saban, not Bama. So I'd say they are likely candidates for a flip.
But I'd take them at LSU in a heartbeat though

It's the safest hire in my opinion. If it doesn't work, fire Smart and get a big name.
