I believe Miles. Martin probably begged him to come chat so the onslaught of angry emails and letters would stop. Miles probably said something along the lines of "fine, but only because you're screwing this search up and making my alma mater look bad." Martin sucks.

I believe he helped them a great deal...he reduced their pool of candidates by one.
