Gilbert is still getting paid balance of what he doesn’t make now by Texas. So it’s not like if we offer him a million he’s gonna be $900K richer. And where he is now he has exactly who he wants in place regarding assistants, loves his HC, and has a fairly easy gig at USF compared to LSU.
Here he’s stuck with Tommy Rob, M Joseph, and Ensminger as his position coaches and a HC who will meddle and be more loyal to the position coaches than him.

Well aren't you a ray of sunshine.

What's your beef with Tommy Robinson?

Jeez. I know Joseph gets a lot of hate around here, but now T Rob and Ensminger are shitty position coaches too?

Tell me about all the great things Tommy Robinson is doing and all of the great pass catching TE’s LSU has put out in the past decade since Ensminger has been on board.

Robinson is supposed to be coaching RBs and is basically gonna have to actually be the recruiting coordinator now that O was too prideful to take Austin Thomas back!

It’s not that, it’s that these guys have NEVER coached a Veer and Shoot Offense, let alone a Spread. In my opinion for this to work, the OC needs to bring in a couple of his guys that know how to install/coach the system.

If it’s an easy system for the players then why wouldn’t it be easy for the coaches? Just asking?

Bingo! The problem is all of these guys have been hired because of “relationships” they possess and not their ability to contribute to the system we are attempting to empower a high level OC to implement effectively! Part of the “described downfall” of the Canada system was that the assistants didn’t understand his system, I bet they didn’t!

It’s more about assistant coaching job existing to support the system than because of said relationships they have with either O, NO coaches, old guard LSU guys, etc. I just don’t see those 3 really supporting a new Spread OC to the point of contributing on the level they should.

Didn't TRob recruit and coach Foreman at Texas? And he became the centerpiece of Gilberts scheme at Texas.

And although Darrel Williams great senior year was due to his hard work but maybe TRob helped him a little bit.

The main question I have about Gilbert is how will he feel about recruiting those east Texas kids to LSU.

You just have to be fully committed to run a system like this. A guy like Ensminger who’s roots are from a traditional offense may not be a sold to the principles that are being run. Then you run into chemistry issues with the OC and the offense not reaching its full potential

I’d love Gilbert, I just want people to have a fresh perspective of what we’re up against. I’m no O fan by any means, but if we don’t land him I want people to realize there more to it than “O and Alleva suck yet again!” I am greatful for Smashwilliams contribution regarding Tommy Rob working with Gilbert at UT! That gives me hope that there is a connection there to both give O some faith in the guy and that Gilbert could work with a guy he’s worked with and had some success with before.
