quote:pretty much. I still havent forgiven Jimbo for ruining 2006.
I didn't know squat about him before he was hired. But I can tell you during his first year here I was like "Hell yeah a OC that actually runs misdirection plays!"
I hated Jimbo's offensive play calling (Bland) but I never complained because we were winning. And then Saban would always put the brakes on the offense after the first half. Never came away from so many games that were wins simply had a hard time enjoying

Didn't know much about him other than he was the La tech coach. Watched the youtube clips of his record-setting game with Nebraska, and was impressed. Looked at Tim Rattay's records and was futher impressed.
Looked at his Chicago Bears tenure, and while the record was mediocre, the offense set Bears records. Was further impressed, especially accomplishing that on the pro level with a mediocre QB.
Looked at his BYU offensive stats, and came away impressed.
Learned he was the OC at Oregon during the Dixon days, and thought the Ducks put up great numbers and had decent results.
The first negative report I heard was from a friend on Rivals Mainboard who is a Ducks fan, who warned me that Crowton was a shite play-caller and Oregon never achieved up to the level of their talent.
When we won the MNC in '07 and 439 yards & 38.6 points per game, I sort of told my Ducks friend he didn't know what he was talking about. Now I need to apologize to him.

I remember thinking man Les Miles can recruit solid coaches. Turns out I did not know what I was talkin about. So now I am keeping my mouth shut about this OC search.

I was greatly disappointed. I felt we had downgraded significantly going from Jimbo to Crowton. I also knew that he didn't recruit worth a shite.
I was pleasantly surprised by his first year in 2007 but wondered if it was a fluke. 2008 confirmed that inclination.

I was feeling just like I feel now. I was ready for a change from Fisher, I didn't feel like Fisher was terrible but I was glad he was leaving. Same for Crowton, I don't hate him and unlike most others I think we would still have been better this coming year if he had stayed. That being said though, I was really ready for a change and I am always willing to give the new guy a couple of years before I form an opinion about his ability.

I didn't know much about him except he was from Oregon and BYU and they had good offenses so I was like hell yeah... if only I had known

Tim Rattay to Troy Edwards.

It took awhile for us to realize that Crowton wasn't the answer. 2007 was great. 2008 was full of turnovers but we all dismissed that as a young QB's troubles. That year, even though they're were games were I felt like Crowton screwed up
(2008 Bama game specifically) I still was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. 2009 was abysmal, but even then I partially blamed the o-line until the Ole Miss game, and then I said he had to go. 2010 has only reinforced my opinions.

Like many others, I was relieved to get rid of Jimbo and felt vindicated when Crowton was putting up good numbers and FSU with Jimbo as OC were going backwards.
Soon after, the trend for both coordinators headed in opposite directions but am glad we are rid of both of them.

I remembered him from his days at La Tech and Chicago. I thought he was a home run hire. Boy, was I wrong.

I felt like he had some baggage, moved around to many times...LaTech,Chicago,BYU. Never seemed to fit in anywhere.
