He's staying at Michigan but not as a DC.

The old man wants to be at Michigan.

Harbaugh's old man and Mattison are tight.

I was about to ask the same question.

He and Cameron coached together with the Ravens. Miles, Mattison and Cameron all were on staff at Michigan together in '92 and '93.

I've got to think he is on Miles' radar.

Dude put up some decent numbers as Michigan's DC.

They had a top ten defense this year.

His bio does not suck:

He's been in the SEC before -- at Florida under Urban Meyer on a team that won the national title.

He just got demoted despite having a top ten defense.

He's old (65) but probably has a few good years left in him. I'm sure he would listen to Miles.

He could definitely man the helm for a few years until we find someone better or Miles gets the axe.

and he left to go back to Michigan. Word on the street is he did so out of frustration with the struggles of the team's offense

Good one.

In 2014 Michigan was dead last in total offense in the B1G.

In all seriousness, I have no idea if Mattison likes Miles or Cameron or not. Not a clue. Maybe Mattison is buddies with Gary Moeller (if you believe the stories) and hates Les Miles with every ounce of his being.

Who knows.

I'm just saying the guy got demoted and obviously has skills. It's a possibility.

It's the offseason. There's not much else to talk about.

Really? The Ravens total offense was ranked 16th in the NFL that season and Cameron was fired after week 14. They were 2nd to last in penalties, and they actually decent turnover margin. The Ravens defense wasn't exactly a turnover machine or anything, so that margin reflects reasonably on the offense looking back. I think it had more to do with Flacco/Cameron relationship instead of the Cameron's relationship to anyone else.

He's trolling.

Aggy is milking Chavis-gate for all they can.

They can't fill their jars fast enough this week.

Dellenger was straight up asked about Mattison today and here was his response:

Who?

After explaining who he is here was the response:

Ah. Haven't heard his name mentioned. Things are being kept pretty quiet. Not a lot of names funneling out. Thanks though.

So there you have it.

No chance. Greg Mattison will retire in Michigan.

Dave Brandon, the fired AD, donated $5M to Michigan medical school and has very close relationship with the best medical staff there before become AD.

Greg Mattison's daughter's family live in Michigan. His granddaughter had a heart problem. Dave Brandon arranged the heart surgery for the little girl and saved the girl's life.

When Brady Hoke was hired, Dave Brandon called Greg Mattison and gave him $800k per year as the DC. His daughter's family moved to Ann Arbor also.

Greg Mattidion is very loyal to Michigan. After Brady Hoke was fired, he kept recruiting for Michigan without knowing who the next coach is.

He will retire in Michigan. At his age, there is no point to work in a new place and stay away from the FAMILY.

That sure doesn't make any sense. He left after one of Flacco's best seasons as a QB.

I hear what you're saying but how much time do coaches spend with family anyway? It's usually their wives that spend the time with family and he could just live out of a hotel for a few years and fly back to see the family. I'm sure something could be worked out. It happens all the time (see Shoop at Penn State).

Also if Mattison is so uber loyal to Michigan why did he bolt for Notre Dame after the 1996 season for the same job? Did he and Carr not get along?

I agree it's highly unlikely. But the dude got demoted despite having a top 10 defense. Maybe he hates Miles and/or Cameron. I haven't a clue what their relationship is/was.

Harbaugh made his choice at DC and it wasn't Mattison. That has to sting a little, no?

He is a father figure type to JH.

I mean he does not care about the title etc any more to stay in Michigan to help the young generation grow.

he loves the school. he has very close relationship to Harbauph family and the Michigan people.

You're probably right.

We'll soon find out just who Miles hires and/or promotes.

In the meantime, Michigan should continue to be ballin' on defense.
