Hire Patterson and you'll never miss Chavis.

As an experienced head coach, I agree.
On the other hand, Malzahn as an OC would be easier to get here by being promoted and paid a lot more. Not only that, Gus has a track record of being able to adapt his offense to fit his players, especially QB. LSU can out-talent Miss St for the most part, but getting Gus out of the Plains is more advantageous for us. The guy just coached a Heisman winning QB, and he has experience play-calling from the sidelines.
Just some Devil's Advocate.

I suggested Chavis as a stop gap just to keep the staff until we could get a better HC next year and got destroyed for it

You said you were a head coach right. I'm guessing you're over 40. Tell me when in your life have you ever seen a Mississippi State team hang 50+ on Michigan, beat Florida, and play bama pretty close. Think about this. When have you seen any team from starkville come close to Mullin's teams. And to think that State has to have 40 home games a year to match our home game season revenue, I would say it isn't a lateral move to BR for Mullins.
