Texas size rumor starting to fade
Now I am really confused!
OP:What the hell were we thinking? I am starting to feel really stupid for ever believing such a coop was possible. Sexton is a master of this sort of thing but the real foil is on Bama. BTW, the whole letting Brown hang around deal is really lame.

BREAKING: Toot my horn a bit. If you followed my Mack Brown TL u know I was giving details before media sniffed this story. Now there's major change again that you wont see anywhere else. Take it to the bank. With that here we go. Mack Brown was told in NYC a change had to be made due record, direction, loss of season ticket renewals and loss of Donor support. Mack Brown was given two options. The first that UT could buy out contract and release him, or he could resign and receive the buyout, salary thru 2020 and a title like DKR, Mack Brown chose the resignation route but asked to first complete recruiting trip, tell team and staff and do this in Austin. Mack Brown was given chose the resignation route but asked to first complete recruiting trip, tell team and staff and do this in Austin. Mack Brown was given this privilege and was assured it would remain confidential. Mack Brown then traveled to FL to recruiting and Patterson returned to Austin. While in FL Mack Brown received word the story was out and was livid. Patterson assured him they would give him cover and call it Mack Browns decision to make. Patterson did not want to be seen as Jerry Jones firing Tom Landry. Pres Powers joined in and everyone said decision was Mack Browns to make. Enter National Media and 24/7 coverage. Forced to continue the cover story and with his agent calling media reports false, over time the one thing happened that UT did not want. It lost control of the situation. Mack Brown came to realize that the cover story had now become FACT. He does control his own destiny and can make his own decision. Mack Brown wanted to discuss further. Patterson does not. Mack Brown was told the school did not want to miss any chance it might have with Saban and wants Mack Brown out per their agreement. Patterson sources say is STUCK. He does NOT want to FIRE the coach but if forced to retain him into 2014 he would FIRE Mack Brown at the first sign the team was not a National Championship and NO more. Buyout is different as of Jan 1 2014 by the way. Bottom line due to unintentional GAFF, Mack Brown now DOES have the final decision. UNLESS, Powers is terminated by the Board of Regents today. If that happens, Mack Brown will be fired tomorrow if he doesn't resign as the Board wants him OUT. Clear as mud? Brown will be meeting with Patterson and I will have details on Mack Browns decision as I know more. I can tell you personal friends of Mack Brown are encouraging him to step down and he is still expected to do so at the football banquet tomorrow night. He simply wants to make one more attempt to sell them that Mack Brown can bring UT back to elite status. Even Mack Brown does not believe that will be possible in 2014. I will provide additional details as I learn them. Fluid Situaiton.

I think everyone got told to shut the hell up with the leaks before they ruin it.

From yesterday;
Sabin has had unsigned contract on his desk since Friday. If it remains unsigned through tomorrow, sources say 70/30 he replaces Mack Brown

Well you never really know what's going to happen. Might leave, might not, classic Sexton tactics though.
I find it humorous the Auburn fans have such short memories who are running their mouths like mad on this subject.
Do they forget who Tubs agent was and how often he went in dry re-negotiating his contract with them and how often his name would get floated for every possible coaching job out there?
Hell he "retired" and they still paid him his buyout.

Still say if Mack stays as "advisor" that is a deal-breaker for Saban. No way he puts himself in that situation. Probaly a lot of other coaches won't either. Stupid move on the part of UT, if true.

I would love to see him leave, but I've never really bought in to all the rumors. I think he stays.

That guy is all over the place. He said Mack Brown to Nebraska. Said Saban and Sexton were negotiating through back channels and it was a 70% chance of Saban going. Then says no contact.
Then there's this:

Early tip off from UT on Mack Brown? LINK is now LINK Interesting development to say the least
That's been the case for months.
Plus before this all started, there were no tweets about UT. All of a sudden he has "sources" and none seem to agree.

I think it is the opposite . The longer saban waits to say he not going to texas . The more bama better worry .

They're not stupid enough to blow a shot at Saban just to hurt Mack's feelings a little less.

No.
How many times does a UT HC job come open. How many times does Saban buy a house near Austin.
el obviouso

I can't understand why he would stay.

I think whatever decisions were made, were made days ago. The longer there is silence the better chance Saban is gone.

Me, either. Doing what you love for NFL-caliber money and winning national championships must suck.

You could say, though, that Saban responded to this months ago. And if he's telling recruits he's going to be at Bama, is he really being silent on the issue?
There is just so much smoke here it's impossible to tell.

yeah i started to get that feeling 4 months ago

Perhaps the biggest sticking spot is all the talk about MB remaining on staff in another capacity. This is a poison pill for an incoming coach and one I believe would be totally unacceptable to Saban.
