Just my guess and probably the dumbest guess out there...

I think first candidate is Bill O'Brien, he handled the mess at Penn St well and has shown he can handle adversity. Has NFL ties to help recruiting (if needed) can show off Super Bowl Rings. The fallback guy is Rich Rod. He plays a style that is used by many in Texas and can win if not told he has to do it a certain way. He has BCS berth and BCS wins.

Bill O'Brien would be a great hire, but I believe he's firmly committed to bringing Penn State out of their funk. So far he's done great.

I'm sure UT would be itching to replace a guy who struggled to get over the hump with another coach famous for the same thing

Im not sure if O'Brien would not leave if the situation is right. I am positive he is committed to Penn St for the most part, but if they call he should at least listen.

Brown got Texas over the hump. People forget what the situation was that he got. They had the identity scandal, a blowout in the Sugar Bowl, a lost ship, poor facilities.

Now they just have a defunctional athletic department being sued by the former multi national championship women female track coach, a lot of hanky panky BS and apparently donors and regents doing various coaching searches on their own.

Such improvement!

See: What happened with him at Michigan, another large school. I just don't see texas taking a chance on him, the backlash would just be too great if he was a flop again.

So blame the firing of a track coach on Brown? That makes as much sense as Arkansas fans and SMU fans blaming Texas and aTm for telling businessmen in Dallas to pay their players.

The next coach is walking into a dysfunctional environment.

I think this is true...was also told that Patterson will need to cut a lot of people from AD...apparently, they have almost as many employees in the Athletic Department as they have athletes.

I would almost feel sorry for Saban if he left Alabama at this point to coach Texas...just because any shred of credibility that he had would evaporate as fast as his plane could get him to Austin.

I think Miles is too much like Mack Brown with similar track record. I am guessing they go younger.

I still have never figured out Sinquefelds job at TCU. He went from student mgr at LSu under Coach Boss to Eq Manager at ECU to Assistant AD at TCU. But he still was doing Equiment Manager duties and active in the AEMA.

I wished I had never lost contact with Chip Robertson or Kevin at UT. They would give the scoop.

Personally, I think Malzahn is not big enough for the Texas job...he only has two seasons as a head coach and only one at a big program. He is in the title game mostly on luck. I think he is still a risk.

I still believe they want Saban but I believe he's done at this point.

I can just see Saban telling Sexton, "Jimmy, please, please don't tell me what UT is offering me...please, please...I don't want to know...I don't want to be tempted!"

Not trolling

The job is open and they want saban and are willing to back up the truck. They will offer him.

How is that trolling?

I love Spurrier but he is probably too old to be starting over.

I just would hate to be making this decision. You make the decision but people will be questioning it all the time, because you didn't get Coach X. This guy is going to be expected to win BCS level games and "playoff" games immediately.

The one guy who I think gets a phone call is Pat Fitzgerald. Just because he is young and has shown he can win on an uneven playing field. But I do not think he will get offered.

I guess I will stay with O'Brien as my pick.
