** Coaching Search: List Narrowing -- One candidate is out

Horns247 has learned that we can eliminate one name from a list of prospective coaches ? Auburn's Gus Malzahn.
While no specific reason was given, I was told that Malzahn is not going to be the next Texas coach.
Whether it's his own lack of interest or that of Texas is unclear. But I was told that Malzahn would not be the next Texas coach.
**
Two coaches remain at the forefront of the race. They are Florida State's Jimbo Fisher and Baylor's Art Briles.
Neither coach has said much publicly about the Texas position because both are preparing for BCS games. Briles leads Baylor into its first-ever BCS contest in the Fiesta Bowl while Fisher readies for the national championship game, which is almost two full weeks away.
**
I've heard some rumblings about Alabama's Nick Saban continuing to be a possibility.
I asked a high-ranking official if I should give any credence to the scuttlebutt.
"No," the source texted me.
Unfortunately, until the job actually goes to someone else, Saban's name will continue to surface.
Like Fisher and Briles, Saban is taking his team to a BCS bowl, too.
**
Given that the primary targets of Texas are all in BCS bowl games, I do not expect any announcements from Texas until into the new year.
However, I am told that Texas is primarily vetting college head coaches, not pro coaches.

...that they know absolutely nothing about coaching searches.
I don't think CGM is going anywhere but quoting a source that derives its income on gossip is willful ignorance.
Three weeks ago they a lot of people duped enough to get the credit card out and subscribe.
Now that you and 10,000 other Auburn fans are 100% certain that CGM isn't going anywhere all they have to do is wait a few days with a tempting story and hint that CGM is fact in negotiation with UT. You'll get that card and spend $10 to see that PT Barnum was right.

That is probably the worst article I've ever read........ever.

THe only scenario I see Saban considering UT is if his ego woke up and realized UT was going to pay another coach more money than he is making
Say they offered Jimbo Fisher 9 or 10 mil
He may have some quick second thoughts

@tex09413171: Confirmed that initial offer will be made to Art Briles to replace Mack Brown due HS connections. Buyout no problem, offer to be significant

Yes, because the term "gumps" is so witty and original. LSU fans dug really deep coming up with that original term.
At least its fitting. Last I checked LA isn't known for corn or hotdogs, hence the reason why the term is used for Nebraska fans, Gump.

Looks like Jimbo will be signing the new K before the team leaves for Cali

I think Gumps is very fitting. Forrest played for the tide and holds an academic degree from Alabama.

Forrest is one of their most accomplished graduates. In Alabama tradition, he backed his way into history more than once.
