Just now.
As I think of it, this might be an interesting ride for good, ole Phil. He maybe ate a lot of Krispy Kremes, but he never deserved to be thrown out with yesterday's wet newspaper. Shame on Tennessee/good for Iowa State if it's true.

Would probably be a pretty good hire. It would take him some time to get his players there, but the Big 12 north is pretty weak. He could do some good things there.

Fulmer is a really, really good coach. The UT administration was really shitty towards him. That would be awesome if Tennessee had a losing record over the next two years and Iowa State got to the big 12 north campionship.

Where are you in Iowa? I'm from Iowa and went to Iowa State.

Never was an Iowa State fan, I was always a Hawkeye fan (I know I know) but ISU fans annoyed me.

If Philful ended up in Ames (great hire) I'd definately cheer them on to a Big 12 North title. He could prolly get some good recruits in there.

I keep asking myself this every year about now! Nah, I grew up in Ridgecrest, LA. I ended up here after getting laid off as a roust-a-bout in '86 and going off to the Army (Germany). My dad was transferred from Natchez to Des Moines (tire plant). He told me how much better the economy and job market was here. I came up here and found a decent job, so here I am. He's back home in Vidalia now.

When did you leave Iowa?

Harlan fo sho! Pretty good football school. I coach 4-6 grade f-ball and we played their little guys a few times.

I've been here since '90. I like it here. I live in a small community with a good school system, but it's too c-c-c-cold!! We'll have freezing rain tonight turning to snow with 4-6" accumulation. The other thing is, it's too far from my family, and I haven't been to an LSU game since I left. I did, however, get over to a game in Omaha this year.

Yup, harlan would be the one. I drove through GC on my way to school every time.

I do like it. My gf is from Louisiana and she came back with me to meet family and she really liked the community aspect of Iowa but yeah.......the other day it definately read -8 on the thermometor. That's a bit ridiculous.

I love it down at LSU, and the games are great. You went to a CWS game in Omaha? Used to not be a big fan of Omaha but I admit it really is a pretty nice town nowadays with the improvements they've made since I've been gone.

What do you do in GC? We camp with a guy from there at the state fair every year.

My wife is from Omaha and her folks live there, so we get around pretty good there. We got lucky, we stepped into an LSU Tailgate party, bought two tickets, and had a blast.

I am the assistant manager of the egg farm here. The state fair as pretty much THE event in these parts. Would be interested to know if I know your friend.

Here's the forcast for DM tonight:

Here is the time-line for Des Moines:

6:00PM: Freezing drizzle/fog
7:00PM: Freezing rain
8:00PM: Freezing rain to sleet
9:00 to 10:00PM: Sleet to Snow
Midnight-5:00AM: Snow

Expected amounts
- ½ to ¾ inch of ice in southern 3 tears of counties
- ¾ to 1 inch of ice in southeastern Iowa south of Ottumwa to the southeast
corner of Iowa
- .10 to .20 ice in metro. Then 1" sleet followed by 2 to 4 inches of snow.
4 inches possible just to the north of Des Moines.
- 5 inches of snow along highway 30, including Ames
- 7 to 10 inches possible along Highway 20 including Ft. Dodge to Iowa
Falls to Waterloo.
- 6 inches of snow along the Iowa/Minnesota border

The Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from 6 PM this evening to 9 am
CST Friday. The winter storm to impact the area will bring a mix of winter
precipitation beginning this evening. For locations north of Highway
30...the precipitation will fall mainly as snow with 4 to 7 inches possible
over the warned area. There may also be a brief period of sleet this
evening near the Highway 30 corridor. Between Highway 30 and the Interstate
80 corridor...precipitation in the form of sleet will develop late this
afternoon. The sleet may mix with freezing rain this evening before
changing over to snow. To make matters worse...the potential for thunder
snow also exists. Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches of snow are likely by
early Friday morning. Locations where thunder snow occurs could see as much
as 6 to 10 inches of snow. A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts
of snow... sleet... and ice are expected or occurring. This will make
travel very hazardous or impossible.

In other words........stay home.

I've heard of the egg farm there actually.

Yes, the state fair is THE event in Iowa. It's actually a great time. I've camped there since 89 for the whole duration and it's quite a party. lotta people that go to the fair have no idea about all of the camping. We spend a lot of time up there "tailgating" for the fair.

Guy we know, I believe used to work for the county, last name Osen. He's a huge bullshitter. You prolly know him.

Yeah I think his first name is Dave?
Tall, slim guy. There are prolly some other Osens here, but that's the one I know.
