Tulane making contact? Why the delay?

Tulane is saying that a decision wont be made until their President gets back from NYC today. Few whispers that the delay at Tulane also has to do with them putting out feelers to a few people about what their chances would be to snag a half-way decent up-and-coming coach or even Mike Leach if they offer more than they ever have paid a coach before.

Whoa.

Gary Crowton is eager and very motivated. They should hire him.

nOt yet, decision coming today. people say it nobody contacted a specific coach or anything but that they used resources within the business to gauge what others felt about the situation to see if they should fire him and what type of return coach that may be able to get if they did.

Also - the Leach thing sounds far fetched but he covered 2-3 of their games this year so maybe, just maybe there is something there.

I wouldn't want Mike Leach anywhere near LSU, but he would probably be the biggest home run that they could possibly come up with. Leach may be tainted just enough to fall to that level. I don't see him getting a BCS gig any time soon.

Leach could tear it up with LA talent that LSU misses or doesn't have schollies on. I don't think he has fallen that far just yet. Hell he'd make more money and could repair his reputation just as fast as taking a high profile OC job and lighting up D1.

and, yes, Bower
Bower answered his cell phone at his home in Bay St. Louis Tuesday afternoon.

"I've heard all the rumors, but nobody's called me," Bower said. "I haven't heard a word, and I'm not really interested."

Speckled trout fishing in late November beats the heck out of recruiting, apparently.

"There have been so darn many rumors and reports about me over the years and only one of them has ever been true," Bower said.

Various reports have had Bower going to Ole Miss, State, Wyoming, Baylor, Houston, TCU, Tulane, South Alabama and elsewhere.

True, Bower did turn down TCU, Houston, Baylor and Wyoming, but never had contact with the others.

"The only job I ever really pursued was Georgia, and Vince Dooley called me first," Bower said.

Bower was one of three finalists at Georgia the year USM beat TCU in the Mobile Bowl. Mark Richt got the job. "It's crazy now with the Internet," Bower said. "Anybody can say anything. It's one part of the business I don't miss at all."

That would be hilarious.

Funny his dad thinks that if they change coaches and if DJ likes the new coach he can just come back to Tulane.... Kid (his dad really)jumped the gun on his transfer. Should have just waited until after the Spring semester. he still has to find a school (which he could have done during the off-season) and still has to sit out next football season at the DI/FBS level. Could have had another free semester at Tulane, food and a place to stay for a few months while looking around. Could have asked for transfer right before Spring ball started so he wouldnt have to practice if they dont get rid of Toledo.

I hope they get Leach or some coach that runs a spread or something and then they tell Banks "thanks but no thanks pal - you are outta here"

I don't think he's falling off that much and I really doubt his ego has taken that much of a hit. I could see him at a upper level mid-major or lower level BCS team. Hell, I think Minnisota would even look at him.

Exactly. He's gone from 2 wins to 3 to 4. Next year, he's due for 5. 8 more years = championship!!!

This will bring the crowds back
