There could be an 11th hour play at ND with Tuberville. The way they are dillying with names and interviews-and some alums up there are starting to speak his name.
I'll put this one in the "It may not happen but don't be surprised if it does" file!!!

"There are two things Kelly wants from ND or he doesn't go. 1) Lower academic standards 2) To be paid in the Top 5 of coaches in the country and now that Mack Brown got a raise to $5 Million today, Notre Dame will need to pay him near $5 million per year."
Blog in Cinn newspaper.

If ND offers him 500,000 more than he's getting now-he takes it. He won't get top salary right off-it will have to be add through incentives.

It amazes me people still think ND is "dillying" or "stalling". Get a grip. As a university they don't do shite to "stall" while they work behind the scene with saban or meyer. Its just taking them this long to convince someone to come here. In the successful coaching world, no one gives a shite about ND. And the money isn't what everyone thinks it is. Weis didn't make half of what everyone thought he did. Fact. They pay well, but if you think they are gonna offer anybody more then 2.5 or 3mil gaurenteed starting off your just not in tune.
Let's get real people.

ND has a lot of money - a huge endowment and willing alumni and students and even the local community.
They might be unwilling to pay Kelly based on being once bitten but not because they don't have money or can't pay.
It is irrelevant whether the salary is split into actual base+ speeches + advertisements + misc. In the end the coach gets a predetermined amount beforethe incentives and that was quite high for Charlie.

Sorry, but your just wrong. And your way off about the local community here. I would say it feels similar to the baton rouge denham springs area as far as support and financial support just from the surrounding non alum areas. And I've seen weis and swarbrick both on the local news talking about how the figures the media threw out were simply never accurate. His contract offered up to somewhere just over 4mil a year with all incentives, and he never came close to making that in any 1 year. The media never knew the reality of shite and just runs what sounds sensational cause its "ND".
And I never said they weren't capable of paying a ton. I just said they haven't, and won't this year.

its stunning to me that they're not after saban or meyer. they're the only two names in the country with no question marks. its an instant turnaround. not a hopeful one, not "we'll see", its done, at the first press conference, and ND is the only school that could lure either one away.

Cause they have asked about them, and there wasn't enough mutual interest to pursue it. I'm just telling you what I hear on the local news up here.
Again. You guys just don't get it or won't accept it. I don't know which. The plain folk up here have even accepted ND as mediocre for the time being. There's not a ton of excitement or anger up here these days, just a whole lot of dusappointment. Coaches have caught on, the media and thee rest of the country will soon enough.

#2 I could see Notre Dame possibly going for. But I don't think there's any way he gets #1.

They probably are/were, but Meyer/Saban can't have any contact reach the public.

This is how theyexplainef it on the local news. Swar gave a list of names to the search firm and made some calls personally. Search firm asked coachesor their agents on list about mutual interest in the job. Matches were and are put in direct contact with the university.
Saban and meyer were on the list but there hasn't been university contact yet.

Brian Kelly is NOT worth 5 Million fricking Dollars a year. He is a Flash in the Pan IMO.
They will be making a HUGE mistake if they invest that much in him.
If they are gonna pay 5 Million + they need to go to Tuscaloosa, flash 5 Million in Cash in front of Nick Sabans face and MAKE him say no.
Which I dont think Saban will.

Every single candidate is going to want slack on who they let in. Part of the process will be to submit hypotheticals to admissions and see what they can do, and no coach will take the job if they can't get in the kids they want.

You guys are morons if you think they haven't gone through back channels to gauge the interest of Saban/Meyer. They wouldn't be talking to Kelly/Edsall if they hadn't already gotten rejected by the big fish.

Who was the first name mentioned for the BAMA job - Nick Saban, and who is our coach?
Urban Meyer will be the head coach at ND next year.

Actually, I think TT would be a good hire for ND. It won't be the slam dunk that Satan or CUM would be, but TT wouldn't be nearly as expensive. Though the recruiting wasn't the best at Auburn, TT always got the most out of his players and kept them competitive in the SEC. If he goes to ND (where recruiting is never an issue as the name sells itself) and hires himself a quality OC, I don't see how ND won't be in a BCS game every year.

+1
the biggest problem with ND, is that they have lost their edge in recruiting....
don't get me wrong, they can still get a lot of players, but the days of IF YOU COME TO ND, YOU WILL BE ON TV EACH WEEK are "GONE"
all good schools are on TV almost every week, one way or the other, so they have lost that advantage.
