I bet there was NO offer every made. They don't officially offer unless you take it.

Probably didn't.
Les is so loyal for "turning them down" twice.

I don't think this was ever about money. I think Les wants to be someplace for 10 more years and although UM is his "dream job", he recognizes that his best chance for long term continued success is at LSU.
If Michigan were going to lowball him, he never would have spoken to them. His agent should have had the approximate numbers in hand before Les ever sat down with Brandon.

Correct. That allows UM to "save face" when they hire Brady Hoke. They will say that they never offered the job to anybody else and that after interviewing other candidates, he was the best guy for the job.
Also allows Les to say that he gave UM a courtesy interview (they being his alma mater, after all), but said no thanks before they ever offered him the job.

I would not be surprised if it was a courtesy interview and Brandon told Les that Carr was still meddling. The talk about the job was probably all but 30 min, the rest of the time was probably just catching and sharing some drinks.

It becomes an official "offer" the second Miles says, "Yes, I'll take it." Otherwise, they just "happened to be in the neighborhood."

When you don't know any facts its best to just make something up.

The most plausible theory is that Les wasn't inclined to go, but felt he owed it to himself to listen. He may also have felt he owed it to the Michigan AD to hear him out and not send him a rejection notice via email. The MIchigan AD may have been ambivalent about Les, and he may have been enthusiastic, but either way he needed to make the pitch because he had so many constituents who wanted Les. So maybe it was a bit of a dance for everyone's benefit, with an undercurrent of "you never know", maybe a deal gets done after all. If you spend more than 15 minutes in business, you know that good things happen even in circumstances where you don't expect them to, if you just keep the opportunities alive.
